The calculations required for take-off phases, cruise and landing of flights, will be made by the Iberia crew through iPad. With these tablets they will handle the Electronic Flight Bag on board which will result in safety and cost reduction.

Iberia has enabled the cockpits of its aircraft with iPad that help pilots use the Electronic Flight Bag (electronic flight wallet). These devices will replace the paper documentation that the technical crew uses to consult and perform the calculations that are required for the preparation and operation of each flight..

This means a saving of printed paper and reduces by an average of 60 kilos the weight transported, which translates into fuel savings around 150.000 euros per year, only in the short and medium radius fleet.

It will also decrease the workload of pilots and allow for easier and more intuitive flight management., facilitating decision-making, resulting in greater safety and efficiency in the operation.

Iberia has already equipped one of its Airbus A321 with the technology that allows you to use two iPads in the cabin, one in the position of the commander and one in that of the co-pilot. In a second phase, equip four more aircraft in its short- and medium-haul fleet.

currently, the company works in coordination with the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) in the definition of the testing phase, to certify that Iberia complies with the necessary requirements for the use of these electronic devices as a flight instrument.

in parallel, a group of one hundred Iberia pilots has received theoretical and simulator training on the functionalities of this new tool so that, once the approval of the authorities has been obtained, can use it on real flights.
