Founded in 1976, the newspaper 'El País' is a reference in information in Spanish language and currently also has newsrooms in Mexico and Brazil. In a new scenario in which the model of consuming and accessing information has changed, this media of Grupo Prisa has launched an ambitious digital transformation plan to respond to the new needs of communication and relationship with the reader.

In this context and, coinciding with the celebration this year of its 40th anniversary of activity, the main headquarters of the newspaper, located in Madrid, it has been technologically renovated in a comprehensive way with the aim of turning the newsroom into an innovative multimedia space, flexible and functional, according to the new communication requirements, according to the project commissioned to the integration specialist Vitelsa.

As the maximum exponent of this new concept is the so-called Control Center, in which the content areas, distribution and production monitor, coordinate and manage in real time the different platforms of 'El País', through a panoramic videowall, more than 10 square meters of surface area, that acts as a central axis to visualize in a combined way and in real time the main world news agencies.

In the videowall also show traffic metrics and patterns of behavior of users for the monitoring of the different platforms where the information of the journal is distributed, which is even used as a dynamic visual setting in events organized by the medium.

blankAnother of the advantages of this videowall is that it incorporates a control system to create different 'configuration scenarios' in order to adapt to the needs of the writing teams, that can thus actively view multimedia contents of different devices and formats (PC, tablet or other audio and video sources).

Attached to this Control Center is the Drafting Meeting Room, for which Vitelsa has designed a technological proposal that integrates a panoramic videowall, in configuration 4×2, with multimedia capability to simultaneously present content from multiple sources.

blankFor the sound of this space has been installed a digital audio system with processor and speakers of high fidelity. This audiovisual equipment allows the team to make presentations of great impact, in addition to being prepared to make video communications without interference.

As in the Control Center, the management of multimedia contents is carried out with an advanced control system that allows to visualize in real time information, data, Etc. coming from PC, tablet or other audio and video sources.

To these spaces is added the new television studio, equipped with fiber optic infrastructure and audio connectivity, video and data for the production of HD content with mobile and fixed equipment. This set is connected in turn with the realization control area, the technical room of the plant and the video production room, in which the multimedia pieces that are subsequently used by the different digital publications of the group are edited and structured.

blankAll these spaces have also been integrated by Vitelsa in the new fiber optic infrastructure deployed in the newsroom, ready to support HD data and video and equipped with audio/video/data connection units in the different areas of production and content editing, which allows its simple distribution between the different rooms and work teams.

On the ground floor of the building the reception area has been remodeled, with the installation of totems and digital screens of different formats to welcome the visitor who visits its facilities and who can consult the various communication platforms of the group, whose contents are also managed from the editorial centre.

Digital totems have also been deployed in the area of access to the newsroom of El País to offer a first contact with the visitor who arrives 'at the nerve and information center' of this building, providing a first contact to the visitor who arrives at the nerve center and information of the communication group.

The management of all digital content projected on totems and screens is carried out through an advanced digital signage system, able to create and distribute multiple multimedia channels that present in a personalized way and in high definition a combination of corporate image elements and the group's digital platforms to reinforce the brand both among visitors and in the group's own employees and collaborators.

In order to facilitate and encourage the use of these systems among non-technical drafting staff, it has a powerful automated control system, custom programmed by Vitelsa, that allows you to easily control the use and configuration of the multiple audiovisual resources available through a specific application on a tablet.
