Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland has chosen the video over IP platform Sony NUCLeUS to improve the workflow of surgical imaging in the eighteen operating rooms that the hospital has on the outskirts of Rotterdam.

The systems are being installed in phases by the Netherlands-based integration specialist Avex over a two-year period at the hospital's two main facilities in Gasthuis and Vlietland.

"This solution will contribute to the digitalization of the healthcare landscape and, ultimately, to enjoy better and more advanced health care", explains Peter Spaans, Avex Health Account Manager.

NUCLeUS allows operating room staff to control routing, recording and distribution of high-definition video from endoscopic cameras and other surgical imaging sources. All sources can be instantly assigned to any destination using the system's intuitive touchscreen interface.

Digital video, still images and other patient-related information are transmitted over the hospital's IP network. Content can be viewed on monitors in the operating room or sent to other operating rooms, doctors' offices, consultation rooms and auditoriums anywhere on campus.

NUCLeUS integrates with Franciscus Gasthuis EPD and PACS patient communication and information platforms & Vlietland. The system also features a horizon correction app that ensures that the video captured with slots for fun endoscopic cameras in the operating room are always visualized with 'the right side up' while the surgeon works.

"The main reason we chose Sony's solution is because of its extensive functionality., which includes annotation option and horizon correction application. In addition, Image routing system helps improve operating room staff workflow. For example, can add videos and photos to patients' electronic records (EPD) and, at the same time, offers full access to the material in case of complications, up to three months after recording", comments Lauren Pollinger, Franciscus Gasthuis project manager & Vlietland.
