The new application developed by Philips Display Solutions (PDS), named GuestConnect, allows hotel guests to safely and hygienically control their room's MediaSuite TV using a mobile phone or tablet.

This application not only serves as an aid in the reopening of hotels around the world to go beyond the established health protocols, but it provides its customers with a greater guarantee of protection, security and service.

The TV remote control is usually the most polluted item found in a hotel room due to regular use by hundreds., if not thousands, of different people. In addition, World Health Organization (WHO) has pointed out that COVID-19 can survive for four days on plastic surfaces.

The Philips PDS GuestConnect app, compatible with some of your MediaSuite Hospitality TVs, has been specifically designed to help reduce the potential spread and transmission of COVID-19 and other harmful germs and bacteria, replacing the traditional remote control (difficult to clean due to raised buttons and gaps) by a digital replica on the guest's personal mobile or tablet, that you do not need to connect to the hotel network.

It is usually recommended that TV remotes used at home be cleaned at least once a month., although now it is convenient to do it, at least, weekly. In the case of hotels, authorities recommend that greater attention be paid to the daily cleaning of all surfaces that come into contact with hands in rooms, Including, among others, light switches, bedside tables and remote controls.

Anthony Tizzard, Commercial Director of Philips PDS EMEA, points out that "TV remote controls are a breeding ground for bacteria and, if they are not thoroughly cleaned regularly, may pose a risk to the health of guests. Hotels are making a huge effort to sanitize everything to avoid contagion, and GuestConnect helps them do this and thus eliminate any worries of the guest giving them control".

Seamless installation

Easy to use and completely safe, the GuestConnect app can be added to a connected personal device, no need to visit Play Store or App Store, scanning a unique QR code only for the TV in the guest's room.

QR codes are generated and displayed at the reception and can be provided during check-in at the hotel or, alternatively, for the customer to scan and download when they first turn on their room equipment.

Once installed, the GuestConnect app, which can be managed via the Philips PDS CMND platform, provides guests with the full set of equipment capabilities, both the standard (channel change, volume, Etc.), as another type of services integrated in MediaSuite television, including Chromecast i, content premium and apps from the Google Play store.

Access and control of the TV is cut off immediately when the guest leaves, and a new QR code is immediately generated for the new ones. "At Philips PDS we understand the challenges facing the hospitality industry and the importance, now more than ever, to create the safest and most hygienic environment for your guests.

We will continue to develop more services for GuestConnect, making life easier for both hoteliers and their customers".
