Exterity at Overlake Medical Center

In the Overlake Medical Center the IPTV solution has been installed Exterity achieving a centralized infrastructure that allows managing both the contents of the patient rooms and those of the video wall of the lobby.

Exterity at Overlake Medical CenterThe regional hospital Overlake Medical Center, located in Bellevue (Washington) has installed the IPTV solution of the company belonging to Vitec, Exterity. Designed to enhance the patient experience and manage their internal video needs , the new system is a fundamental part of the Future Careun update and renovation project that is being carried out in this health center.

The cornerstone is a tower of 22.296 square meters of new construction that opened in February. This facility features a new entrance hall and better orientation, while offering larger rooms for individual patients that combine space for family areas.

During the design phase, Jeni Connelly, IT Project Manager at Overlake and Responsible for New Building Technology, realized that a new IPTV system could act as a catalyst to improve the experience of patients in the medical center.

Exterity at Overlake Medical Center"We evaluated our legacy video system – for the most part., coaxial cable tv- and we realized it wasn't compatible with the in-room entertainment experience we wanted to offer our patients.… The new tower project gave us the opportunity to change this. We opted for a state-of-the-art IPTV system because we thought it would be the ideal solution to respond to the challenge of the 'patient experience'", explains Jeni Connelly.

The IPTV system had to cover the 350 Rooms, as well as the common areas and the videowall located in the lobby. An infrastructure integrated into a single network to be centrally managed and monitored. The hospital also hoped to upgrade the existing cable television system to include video-on-demand services. (Vod), while wanting to give patients quick access to informative and educational videos, and other internal content.

Neurilink, based in Boise (Idaho) and Seattle office, was chosen as an integrator of audiovisual systems, and collaborated with Exterity in the design of the IPTV system that had to meet the different demands of hospital staff and patients.

Exterity's IPTV solution has made it easier for Overlake to provide patients and staff with managed access to different categories of content – whether voD, internal videos, own programming or OTA broadcasts- through a streamlined system that is robust, reliable and easy to use. The hospital has significantly improved the patient experience and offers greater value to all stakeholders.
