Malaga University Telefonica 5G

The three projects that Telephone and the University of Malaga have launched provide students with technological tools that use virtual reality and access to physical equipment remotely.

As part of the project Pilots 5G Andalusia of Red.es and strategy Digital Spain 2025, Telephone has successfully executed eight of the twenty-three use cases working on exploring and identifying applications of the 5G technology in Malaga, in sectors such as education with the University of Malaga (UMA) and in safety with the Police of this city (more details on Digital Security Magazine).

Malaga University Telefonica 5GIn order to offer students at the University of Malaga access to interactive education tools to complete their training remotely, Telefónica has worked with its teachers on three use cases that use virtual reality and the virtualization of physical devices, that provide students with immersive education experiences and access to lab equipment remotely.

One of these initiatives based on 5G that Telefónica has carried out with the Virtual Teaching Service and with the Institute of Technology and Software Engineering of the UMA has consisted of the use of a virtual world to facilitate online teaching and interaction between students and teachers.

In this virtual environment, teachers can use audiovisual resources to teach their subjects. The computer system used is Opensimulator, that allows the interaction of avatars in a virtual world in 3D.
