Elation Proteus Excalibur Sky Motion

Sky Motion is an automated sky tracking system that is included in the compact Proteus Excalibur moving beam head from Elation. Allows the unit to function as a striking reflector effect without requiring a dedicated lighting controller.

The spotlight effect that draws attention at the premiere of a Hollywood movie, or at any high-level event, It has traditionally been the domain of cumbersome and inefficient xenon lighting systems.. Elation Professional is changing this with Sky Motion, An automated sky-tracking system in its compact moving beam head Proteus Excalibur that allows the unit to function as a striking reflector effect without the need for a dedicated lighting controller.

“During the development of Proteus Excalibur, We perform comparisons with legacy xenon luminaires to get an idea of how the aerial beams compare to each other”, Explains Matthias Hinrichs, Elation Product Manager. “We realized that, in many ways, the Excalibur surpasses these luminaires. It became clear that there was an opportunity for it to replace expensive xenon reflectors., that consume a lot of energy, for special events, theme parks and other applications.”

Integrated into the latest firmware of the Proteus Excalibur and accessible through a simple menu, Sky Motion reflector mode allows an Excalibur unit or group to create the sky tracking effect. This system works autonomously and is quick and easy to configure directly from the luminaire display.

With ID assignment, A variety of search patterns can be adjusted in terms of size, speed and color. It is possible to choose from a variety of motion designs such as Hollywood, Sky Tracer, Searchlight, Diagonal, Sweep... and even customize the look live from the luminaire.

Proteus Excalibur

with 7.500 lux at a distance of one hundred meters, Proteus Excalibur is, as explained by its manufacturer, the brightest IP65 full-beam luminaire on the market. It houses an ultra-efficient 550W Flex discharge lamp and projects a beam of 0,8 degrees that effortlessly cuts the sky and is visible over great distances.

The intense beam is projected from a front lens of 260 mm as a huge column of solid and striking light that is ideal as a reflector effect. With an IP65 degree of protection, The luminaire remains operational in all weather conditions.

With a power comparable to that of large xenon luminaires 2.000 Or 4.000 W, Excalibur is compact enough to easily load and remove, and runs at a fraction of the power of xenon systems. All that is needed are DMX cables from 5 IP65-rated pins and power.

Low power consumption means terrestrial power is easy to find for easy deployment. No generator needed.

No lighting controller

Sky Motion makes it easy to create a traditional 2-light grid system×2, or any custom arrangement in lines or groups, and is especially useful in situations where traditional programming is not feasible or unavailable..

Excalibur luminaires are easy to configure without the need for a DMX and, Since the system is autonomous and completely independent, No need to transfer data or configure a control console, even users unfamiliar with lighting and DMX can prepare and operate the Sky Motion system.

“The innovative Sky Motion system is designed to be operated by anyone, anywhere”, says Matthias. “It is easy to connect and a specific screen layout has been created so that event staff and technicians can choose a pattern and adjust its size and speed, No experience of lighting programming. The results are immediate, and setup takes only a few minutes until the luminaires are ready to liven up the sky with iconic patterns from Hollywood movie premieres.”

Elation's automated Sky Motion system not only expands the possibilities of use of Proteus Excalibur beyond traditional show lighting applications, rather, it's changing the way we think about traditional projector systems..
