Sony has provided an integrated communication solution with network security to the Palacio Do Gelo shopping center in Viseu (Portugal). Sony's multi-purpose network design combines more than 200 IP security cameras, digital communication and a public address system for one of the largest commercial environments in the Portuguese country.

It is one of the largest shopping centers in Portugal, with a total of 175.000 square meters of commercial space distributed over more than 200 shops and restaurants, a cinema and a supermarket.

Multifunctional surveillance
Sony has provided the Palacio do Gelo in Viseu with a communication and surveillance system 200 cameras with an integrated solution that combines IP network cameras, corporate television, public address system, access control and intrusion detection system. Las 200 IP cameras installed throughout the center have different degrees of functionality and have been carefully chosen according to their purpose. This is the first time that, in Portugal, the same supplier has been responsible for the installation and maintenance of such diverse functions in a single project. Sony has installed a whole range of minidome cameras, fixed and networked smart pan-tilt zoom with DEPA technology (Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture) from Sony. The use of advanced DEPA technology allows Palacio Do Gelo to implement high-performance IP monitoring networks and intelligent video analysis without overloading the existing IT infrastructure.

A single control room

Thanks to the multiservice IP network, all cameras in the facility (from the smallest stores to the largest movie theaters) are managed from the same control room. Management is carried out using Sony's RealShot Manager software, which allows images to be distributed throughout the network, as well as generate analysis reports in almost real time or perform remote video verification functions, which, on the whole, provides an exact view of what is happening anywhere in the center.

In addition to the comprehensive surveillance solution, Palacio Do Gelo has installed a large-scale dynamic communication solution. Internal television functions have been introduced through 25 heavy duty LCD monitors, all of them with HD image quality and equipped with Sony's Ziris View software to provide a network communication platform with centralized control.
