Cisco reinforces its commitment to education to respond to the deficit of ICT professionals
Forecasts point to a deficit of nearly two million ICT professionals. In response to this situation, Cisco has developed a portfolio of training programs and has signed a collaboration agreement with the New York Academy of Sciences.
According to a recent study published by the World Bank, the Information and Communication Technologies sector (TIC) is growing rapidly, constituting a market of 800.000 millions of dollars globally. Also, It is estimated that in the next ten years there will be two million unfilled jobs in the ICT sector worldwide, a deficit of professionals that will reach 8,2% in 2022. To overcome this deficit, training institutions and educational organizations must increase the number of technical graduates by about 222.000 more every year between 2014 y 2022.
Aware of this situation, Cisco is committed to responding to the demand for specialized professionals through strategic programs and collaboration agreements aimed at training current and future generations of entrepreneurs., scientists and inventors related to the Internet of Things (IoT).
Cisco reinforces its commitment to education by offering a portfolio that includes IoT training, evaluations and an upcoming certification (Cisco Specialist Certification) to promote the development of networking skills for different economic sectors.
In collaboration with top industry leaders, This educational portfolio will help overcome the growing deficit of professionals with experience in IP networks (Internet Protocol), with a special focus on automation, manufacturing and energy that will be expanded to other equally transformative disciplines. Through this certification program, Cisco and its industry partners will join forces to help retrain and train a significant number of professionals in these areas.
In addition to identifying the need to improve the preparation of current professionals in the sector, Cisco aims to help train current and future students to meet the demands of the modern workforce. In this sense, knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are increasingly important for students to access ICT careers.
This is how Cisco also announced today a key collaboration agreement with the New York Academy of Sciences (New York Academy of Sciences) establishing the Global STEM Alliance, with the aim of training the next generation of IoT professionals, providing training resources, intergenerational orientation and access to the latest research in science and technology for students around the world. Malaysia and the city of Barcelona will be the first to join the Alliance.
Learning@Cisco, together with its partners, will offer training courses and certifications in IoT focused on new opportunities in multiple sectors. These global programs will help create an environment for students to pursue careers in the IT and automation industry.. Collaborative agreements for STEM training will provide skills that respond to the new needs of the global workforce.
The Global STEM Alliance will facilitate the integration of technology and content by moving local New York Academy of Sciences programs to locations around the world through online and in-person training platforms. This collaboration agreement will allow sharing knowledge anywhere in the world 'humanizing' science, using technology and connecting people interested in science of any age and without geographical limits.
The Cisco Networking Academy training program helps students prepare to obtain globally recognized certifications in the ICT environment and valid for any market segment. Students acquire fundamental knowledge in ICT and other essential skills for 21st century careers as a team collaboration, critical thinking or problem solving.
Courses are offered in multiple languages and combine in-person student attendance with innovative interactive e-learning tools, practices in network laboratories and online evaluations. Networking Academy, in collaboration with educational institutions, is currently training more than one million concurrent students located in 165 countries.
