See-Through leverages augmented reality to ensure driver safety
When overtaking a truck there is usually a lack of visibility but with the See-Through solution, from the University of Porto, which is based on virtual reality, drivers can do it safely.
Researchers of the University of Porto (Portugal) have developed an augmented reality system, llamado See-Through, which ensures the safety of drivers when overtaking.
With this system the driver can see, when he goes after a truck, what's ahead. To make this expansion of the field of vision possible, The truck has a camera in the front and a transparent LCD panel in the rear so that drivers can see what is ahead and whether or not they can overtake safely.
The projected image has a delay of 200 milliseconds. This puts any approaching vehicle within 10 meters further back on the transparent screen than it really is in real time, but it is enough to guarantee the safety of the maneuver.
See-Through, It's still just a prototype., It is capable of detecting if there are cars behind the truck and only if there are, it displays the images automatically, If you don't have anyone behind you, you remain invisible.. In this way, It is ensured that it does not interfere with the normal visibility of drivers.
