Unidisplay has been the main protagonist of Sónar 2014, a monumental audiovisual installation by light and sound made by the German artist avant-garde Carsten Nicolai, who is part of the SonarPlanet initiative and seeking to test limits them of the perception of the viewer with innovative new media projects.

Sonar 2014

This weekend the 21 Edition of Sonarthe International Festival of advanced music and New Media Art, has closed its doors with a balance of 109.000 visitors from 99 countries. The International Congress of the festival, Sonar+D, has received more than 3,500 professionals, while the number of attendees to Sonar day exceeded 52,000 visitors.

For three days, the Fira de Barcelona has become the center of the avant-garde and electronic music experimentation, an event which combines playfulness and artistic.

One of the great innovations of this year has been the birth of SonarPlanet, a joint initiative of Sonar and Fundació Sorigué It will have its continuation in the next three editions and whose purpose is to promote and celebrate the research and experimentation of the creative languages around the technology and new media art.

2014 SonarPlanet Unidisplay

The project invited three internationally renowned artists to present a new proposal that experiment with the creative languages and technology. The selected artist will be rewarded with the production of the piece that will be released each year in the new space SonarPlanet.

An experience that has been started in this year with the Unidisplay work of the German artist Carsten Nicolai unidisplay, a monumental installation audiovisual immersive that explores the logic of self-organized systems and the limits of perception. It is a projection, made in real time on a wall light large format (6 x 36 meters) that incorporates two walls of the side mirrors and a bank with speakers of different dimensions. An avant-garde work framed in a dark space that has shown 24 different effects and allowed the Viewer to be transferred by different inner landscapes and different moods.

This facility offers the most basic elements of the conception of the author but led to a monumental scale. It uses pure lines and basic sound tones that extend to infinity, in a black box that surrounds the viewer and plays with the principles of their perception. Unidisplay is a project that builds space and constantly reconstructs the landscape that creates the same work. The elements used refer to industrial technologies, the lines of pixels in the interfaces we use on a daily basis, the sonorous tones of electronic machinery.

For the realization of this work has been used TouchDesigner signature software Derivativewhich had already been used by the artist in previous appearances in a triple projection screen.

Clouds: interactive documentary with Oculus Rift

At the Sonar+D Congress one of the most prominent projects has been Clouds, an interactive documentary that you can only see if there are virtual reality goggles, recently acquired by Facebook, Oculus Rift and that have been available to the public that has children to sound.

The Italian laboratory Imposition-factory, one of the most relevant creative research centers in the world, presented their impressive audiovisual performance, work of the Venetian musician Edisonnoside and the German visual artist Daniel Schwarz, consisting in a three-dimensional forest in which combined dark electronic beats with abstract images overlapping in perfect synchrony.
