Inbursa Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world, owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, which was inaugurated last June in Mexico City. With more than 3.500 m2 of surface distributed over four levels, This facility has 230 different species of marine life, from sharks to coral reefs and rainforest.

One of the aspects that have been taken care of to the greatest detail in this installation has been the lighting and its control and regulation for the different areas of the aquarium and the light needs of the different species.; system that its managers have entrusted to LED technology Elation, whose equipment has been supplied by the local integrator Adimsa.

For this project, a multidisciplinary team has been created, formed by the Mexican lighting designer Cynthia Ortiz.; the architect of this facility, Edgar Delgado, and Adimsa in order to “generate an innovative aquatic atmosphere and conceptualize the lighting effects of each space and its ideal layout”.

Specifically, For the La playita space and the pool area where the manta ray lives, nine Arena Par LED systems have been installed for their brightness and color capacity., “since both areas require RGBW, but they are used in very different ways: For the beach we wanted uniform light, with light walls and different light scenes from midday to dusk, but with very red tones, very subtle for the sunset scene, by the type of species that inhabit it. In the manta ray zone, a darker area, “We wanted to highlight the texture of the soil and Arena Par was the best option”.

In the rainforest area and in order to create a realistic environment, The lighting choice to let light pass through the trees and vegetation has been the 150W ELED Fresnel systems, with a total of twenty-two distributed systems, for its photometry and functionality.

Recreation of the sea area, with very dark and light areas on the surface, has been one of the challenges, since all systems had to have IP67 certification. For this, Blue ELAR 2A04B luminaires have been recessed into the floor., to project and highlight the texture of the rocks, with accessories on the staircase that runs along this route for the safety of visitors.

In one of the most visited spaces, the penguinarium, Elation Epar Tri LED systems have been distributed, and behind the water pond the ADJ Mega Bar luminaires are used 60 to create an aurora borealis effect, all in blue.

The entire lighting system is programmed and regulated with the Elation Compu Show software, that facilitates the creation of scenes and environments based on the light needs of the species.
