AMD, D/Labs and Dell put their technology at the service of 3D virtual theater scenography

'The Legend of Arthur', the leading musical show currently in France, uses digital technology to create magical effects and virtual 3D scenery and provide viewers with an innovative theatrical experience thanks to the joint project of these companies.

Graphic processing technologies AMD; 3D visualization D/Labs, and hardware Dell have been integrated to offer in the Dove Attia musical show, ‘The Legend of King Arthur: when love changes the course of history’ ('The Legend of Arthur') a new experience for the viewer based on 3D virtual scenery and visual effects. Since its premiere at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, before starting the tour in France, Belgium and Switzerland, The work has received applause from the public and critics.

The project arises from the idea of ​​director Giuliano Peparini, who turned to the specialist in 3D videomapping and digital services D/Labs, with the installation of AMD's powerful FirePro W9100 professional graphics card on Dell Poweredge servers, an innovative combination of the latest GPU technology at the service of theatrical entertainment.

As Thomas Besson explains, co-founder of D/Labs, “as responsible for the virtual scenography of the show, we use two types of media: a large curved Led screen, of some 200 m², located at the back of the stage, as well as projection mapping on the stage. All sets move in five different sections; those on the left and right of the stage are motorized to facilitate their rotation, while the image has to remain perfectly positioned on the stage while the parts move. “This was one of the most complex technical aspects of the project”.

The choice of AMD GPU graphics cards and processors is no coincidence, since “we started using this platform almost fifteen years ago,” Besson points out., and for a while we tried to use some competing solutions, but after all we went back to AMD. Now it is a great advantage for our business, both from the financial aspect and for our work associated with the theatrical world, for its multiple outlets, workflow, memory capacity, etc. as well as for the attention and support of experts from this company to obtain the maximum performance of FirePro products”.
