The Mexican planetarium of Lunaria illuminates its 8K dome with Christie Mirage
In 500 m2 of projection surface are offered 30 million pixels, thanks to the six Mirage 304K projectors that have been installed around the room. The screen, una Spitz NanoSeam, stomach 18 meters in diameter and the Digistar system 6 is responsible for governing the projection.
The new planetarium of the city of Guadalajara (Mexico), Lunaria, has purchased six 3DLP projectors Christie Mirage 304K to illuminate your 8K dome that offers 30 million pixels in 500 square meters of projection surface. The installation has been carried out by the Evans companies & Sutherland (E&S) y Digital Planetariums.
Enrique Fonte, director of Digital Planetariums, a Mexican company specialized in the design and supply of planetariums, explains why Christie projectors were chosen for this room.
“The Government of the state of Jalisco wanted to have a world-class 3D stereo system, and this was only achieved with these highly tested equipment by E&S in installations carried out in different parts of the world. We chose the Mirage 304K model for its 4K resolution and its brightness of 30.000 lumens, In addition, it works very stably at 120 Hz. Being a 3D stereo system, it was required to have extraordinary luminosity after blending.. We were also attracted by its easy connectivity and the quality of its colors., that allow you to achieve impeccable image quality in 2D and 3D”.
Enrique Fonte also highlights the 30 millions of effective pixels that are achieved after blending, “which make the pixel size very small and imperceptible to the audience, in addition to producing a brilliance that positions it among the great domes in the world.
The projection dome is governed by the Digistar system 6, developed by the American E&S. This solution is made up of hardware and software, and has tools such as image synchronization, auto blending and auto alignment to create a high quality image where screen seams are imperceptible and the image is always in focus anywhere on the projection surface, in both 2D and active stereo 3D.
Digistar 6 It also has a tool called Domecasting that will allow Lunaria to connect in real time with other planetariums in the world equipped with the same system., and share content, discoveries, news, conferences, events, etc.
the dome, with capacity for 175 spectators, It is equipped with a surround sound system in 7.1 high power channels supplied by a third party, a perimeter ambient lighting system with RGB LEDs and DMX control.
Christie equipment is installed perimeter around the room, projecting documentaries or 2D and 3D full-dome and large format films, which have been previously rendered for dome.
The screen used is the brand's NanoSeam model Spitz. It has 18 meters in diameter (360×180 degrees) with an inclination of 18 degrees to achieve greater immersion.
Lunaria is already considered one of the best planetariums in the world in terms of equipment. “It is among the five best on the planet. It has the best and most famous system for planetariums and immersion rooms in the world, with the best screen in the world and with the best projection system”, corroborates Source.
