A creative dvLed video wall recalls the history of the United States from the vision of the first Americans
In the creation of this creative curved video wall, 192 panels Roll call Acclaim 2,5 mm and a mounting system, custom designed, Seamless Bespoke dvLed de Peerless AV.
The Museum of First Americans (First Americans Museum – FAM) de Oklahoma lleva a los visitantes a una experiencia narrativa inmersiva con un enorme y creativo videowall dvLED designed with panels Absent Acclaim 2,5 mm and supports Peerless-AV Seamless Bespoke dvLed. A space where you can experience and learn the history of the country through the lens of the 39 Oklahoma Tribal Nations.
In a space of 53.340 square meters, located in the 659 First Americans Boulevard de Oklahoma City, the museum takes visitors on an immersive, storytelling experience about diversity, resistance and culture through exhibitions, objects, photograph, live educational programs, a discovery center and a very spectacular AV element, a curved direct vision LED video wall (dvLed).
The museum, which represents a challenge both in the constructive and architectural aspects., takes more than 20 years in planning phase by the State of Oklahoma, the city and the tribal nations themselves. Initial discussions began in 2018 around the construction of a giant video wall, suspended and curved, designed to wrap around the center of the museum. The aim was to create a gathering space for live music and performances that would mimic the center of a tribal village and allow for 'the exchange of ideas'..
The computer design consultancy Waystone LLC has been in charge of making the concept a reality, designing a video wall that was not only technically feasible, but also pushed the limits in terms of creativity.
As a central contact point for the museum, Waystone LLC Hired Oklahoma City's Top AV Systems Specialist, Ford Audio-Video Systems (Ford AV), to manage the audiovisual part of the project.
To create the video wall, Ford AV selected Absen and Peerless-AV technologies. The design began to be conceived in 2019 in collaboration with the Absen team from the initial drawings to 192 Acclaim series panels in a concave design 6 degrees. Peerless-AV was contracted to build a custom-fabricated mounting system that could accommodate the curvature of the wall and support the total weight of the video wall of more than 1.900 kilos.
“This was no simple rectangular video wall. The installation and engineering of the dvLED video wall was a great challenge. The biggest concern was the curvature of the wall and the Peerless-AV team was instrumental in calculating the radius. The structure and weight were also a challenge. It took three layers of plywood to make the curve, that stands out 1,8 meters from the wall, giving the effect of floating in the air”, explains Courtney Meyes, CEO de Waystone LLC.
Peerless-AV was also selected for its flexibility, profitability, innovative engineering capabilities and customer service, all aspects of Seamless by Peerless-AV, the company's dvLed video wall integration program.
For this project, the Seamless Bespoke dvLed mounting system from Peerless-AV was used., custom designed. Offers exclusive compatibility and support for 192 Paneles Absent Acclaim 2,5 mm dvLEed.
At the Acclaim series 2,5 from Absen is a dvLED solution with a pixel pitch of 2,5 mm providing Full HD/4K image quality, a real aspect ratio of 16:9, Easy maintenance and high brightness for indoor dvLed video wall applications like this one.
The slim design sits less than 10 cm from the wall when mounted and the size of the panels makes it a flexible option for the creativity and complexity of the FAM installation.
Mounting the dvLed video wall
From the moment the teams arrived on site, the process was carefully methodical and meticulous in calculating the necessary adjustment for the required wall curvature.
The first step was to install a plywood support to create a secure base for the dvLed. From there, the team used a detailed CAD drawing, precise measurements and a curved footbed, ensuring that all necessary measures were taken.
“Installation was a challenge from the beginning. A small error in the curvature would deviate the entire structure, so the fit and placement had to be exact at each point”, explains a Ford AV spokesperson. “Fortunately, Peerless-AV mounting system offers adjustment possibilities”.
The installation exceeded the museum's expectations, and the Peerless-AV team provided the perfect mounting system for the unique wall. For the engineers who carried out the project, the frame offered a certain magnificence of its own and they knew that its presence would not go unnoticed. However, A custom Peerless-AV trim kit accessory was added around the sides of the video wall to meet the visual expectations of museum visitors.
The resulting shape of the video wall reflects the character of the FAM and the playful nature of its designer., Courtney Myers. The space inside the rectangle is visualized as a place to put text or have animated characters come and go, tailored to the live performances planned to take place in front of this gigantic 'backdrop'.
The contents shared in the museum fit the video wall thanks to the New York media design company Batwin + Robin Productions.
Intelligent editing software provided by the company provides flexibility and creativity of contents. This not only allows the museum to quickly change content, but you can also use sections of the video wall to display different content.
