Vioso promotes the first large-scale immersive exhibition in Vietnam
'Van Gogh Art Lighting Experience' marks the first major 360º project in this country, which has automatic alignment technology based on cameras Vioso to calibrate the seventy installed projectors.
The immersive exhibition dedicated to the painter's artistic career Vincent Van Gogh, in which more than nine hundred works are shown, occupies a space of 3.800 m² that is part of the mall Gigamall, in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is the first large-scale immersive experience to take place in Vietnam., in which are included projection mapping, virtual reality and 3D audio to show and enjoy the artist's work in 360º, for which they are used twenty five cameras, nine servers and seventy projectors who use the Vioso calibration system.
One of the most surprising installations is Vincent’s Soul, which uses large-scale videomapping to fully immerse visitors in the Dutch master's art. This space has been equipped with seventy projectors, fine-tuned with Vioso software and dozens of calibration chambers, used to create an immersive room with 360° mapped artwork on the walls and floor.
Technically and equally impressive is the area Vincent’s Land, in which the Vioso team helped project Van Gogh's works on a 3D sculpture of the artist, and the first time that such a technique has been performed on a statue in Vietnam.
Etienne Servant, senior AV project manager at Vioso, remember how this project started: “Here are the rooms. I want to put video content everywhere, how should we proceed? This is how they presented to us what they wanted to do.. I was in charge of the planning and design of the installation, including projectors and cameras, media servers and signal distribution, and I provided the technical designs of the exhibition so they could install everything”.
After this laborious process, Servant points out that afterward “it was just a matter of calibrating the projectors to achieve an optimal image.”, perfectly deformed and fused that extended throughout the space and transferred knowledge to the client. That's when I came to make the magic happen: use all these projectors to create a unique immersive atmosphere”.
As pointed out Mia Nguyen, executive director of First ITC, Vioso partner in Van Gogh Art Lighting Experience, remember the support offered by this company during the project: “your team answered all my questions and provided clear technical answers throughout the preparation and installation process. Vioso supported the project, both remotely and in person. In addition to video projection, I received recommendations and help regarding audio, OF, laser… so I was able to turn an empty space into an immersive exhibition”.
To create the desired atmosphere in Vincent’s Soul y Vincent’s Land about twenty-five calibration chambers were needed, which Servant combined with self-calibration software Vioso 6 for projection mapping in the immersion room and on the artist's statue.
A configuration of nine media servers running Pixera of BY Stumpfl are responsible for managing the reproduction of exhibition content.
Although Van Gogh Art Lighting Experience took seven years in development, the technical team only had two months to complete the installation. "As usual, one of the biggest challenges was going through customs to import the material, which was a real effort on everyone's part - Nguyen recalls. Once everything is installed, “We use Vioso's valuable time to learn from them and understand how to use the equipment.”.
Servant adds that it was exciting to participate in an exhibition that marks the largest immersive installation in Vietnam to date and the first that its citizens can experience video mapping on a 3D sculpture. “Going to the other side of the world and transmitting knowledge to a team with a lot of talent and enthusiasm was very motivating”.
For Nguyen, cutting-edge projection technology that underpins the experience Van Gogh Art Lighting distinguishes it from previous art exhibitions held in Vietnam, “Visitors can really delve into Van Gogh's universe like never before”.
