DAS Audio creates surround sound for 'Priscilla, queen of the desert
For the staging of this famous musical in the Tivoli theater of Barcelona are used Artc systems, Sara and Ara THE audio to offer a complete sound experience to each viewer.
The emblematic scenic space of Tivoli theater from Barcelona, with an intense and varied programming, It includes the musical Priscilla, queen of the desert, based on the iconic film 1994, which now celebrates the 30th anniversary of its premiere.
With a montage full of color, energy and disco music, The staging has aimed to offer a sensory experience completes the viewer. “Since the first notes sound, The public knows that they are going to have a good time - assures its technical director, Guillermo Cuenca-. They leave their problems outside the theater and enter fully into the magic of the show.”.
Design the sound system For a theater of these dimensions and characteristics, it presents multiple challenges. The architecture of the Tivoli theater, with its different levels of seats and balconies, demanded a sound solution capable of providing uniform coverage without losing clarity or dynamic balance.
How do you explain Gaston Briski, sound engineer, “The main objective was to every viewer, regardless of your location in the room, had the same sound experience. “There could be no areas where the sound was perceived as different or distorted.”.
Another challenge was ensuring that the amplification was as natural as possible.. “When the sound is well done, "You immerse yourself in history without even thinking about it," says Briski.. That is to say, the system had to integrate perfectly into the narrative of the musical, allowing the story to flow without the viewer perceiving the technology behind it”.
Besides, Combining musical numbers with dialogue and dramatic transitions required a system that could accurately handle dynamic changes in loudness.
To respond to these needs, a sound system has been designed based on the Ara series from DAS Audio, which provides not only great power and clarity, but also an enveloping and natural feeling. The system layout has been meticulously designed so that each area of the theater receives sound evenly.
The proscenium has been covered with linear arrangements Sara, that offer great definition and coverage in the first rows. For spectators closest to the stage, systems are used Ara-P28, that guarantee a seamless transition of sound experience.
The front rows of the theater have also been reinforced with altavoces Artec-506, so that the sound now arrives with greater clarity and without the need for excess volume.
The use of surround systems has been key to creating a feeling of immersion, especially in the more theatrical moments of the musical. How do you explain Pedro Galana Barrios, “The goal was for the sound not only to come from the stage, but rather that it surrounded the public in an organic way”.
For this, Speakers have been distributed on the sides and back of the theater, what allows create spatial effects without these being artificial. On the upper levels a system of delay, based on Sara and Ara-P28, so that the signal arrives synchronously and without loss of definition.
Besides, Ara-P28 models are used as part of the surround sound system, reinforcing the immersive feeling and contributing to a spatial listening experience in this musical.
Sara's subwoofers, being cardioid, minimize energy dispersion at the rear, which prevents unwanted low-frequency accumulations and allows uniform distribution throughout the room, with greater control and clarity in the low frequencies.
