German company Osram Opto has revealed its new PL TB450 blue laser diode, which has an optical power of 1.4W and is particularly suitable for high-quality projectors in the professional field.

Osram Opto Semiconductors announces its new high power laser diode PL TB450 that, mounted in a compact TO-56 package, It is characterized by an optical power of 1.4 W to become the ideal solution for high-quality professional projectors, like those used in offices, conference rooms and home cinemas. The PL TB450 is the latest addition to the catalog of indium-gallium-nitride substrates (InGaN) from Osram and provides excellent performance in a good number of laser systems, from decorative lighting to medical applications.

Professional projectors with a luminous flux of more than a thousand lumens are the main “goal” of the new PLTB450. With a wavelength of 450 nanometers, produces the desired blue laser light and, only with a 1.4 W (at room temperature and a current of 1.2 A), the required optical power.

Thanks to its efficiency 27 percent, the laser temperature will only increase slightly during use, enabling an estimated operational life of up to 10.000 hours to +40 °C. This ensures maintenance-free operation on projectors with low power consumption.

Professional projectors can make the most of Osram's new laser. Red LEDs are combined with high-power blue lasers and the color green “appears” when the blue lasers “pop” a special phosphor to emit light. Red light can also be generated in this way, so the light source of the projector can be designed without red LEDs, if a smaller size product is needed.
