Huawei defines the immersive telepresence of the future with MirrorSys
'Full field communication' is the innovative telepresence concept that Huawei has presented at MWC 2015, currently in the form of a prototype called MirrorSys, based on a UHD video display – 8K, Surround sound and realistic environment.
MirrorSys is the prototype of a real-time communications system, high definition and full size “that goes beyond the limits of human vision”, as presented by the Chinese multinational Huawei during his participation in MWC 2015 in Barcelona, under the concept of 'full field communication (full field communication).
This immersive telepresence system is based on a 220” 8K ultra high definition video screen., Extendable architecture to offer a 110º viewing angle and surround sound 22,2 (imperceptible to the ear), to recreate the entire atmosphere of the remote environment so that the user feels like part of what is displayed on the screen.
The combination between the size and the ultra-high resolution of the screen are key to achieving this immersion, since it equals the acuity of the human eye (left and right) at a distance of 2,4 metros, so that the image is shown to the interlocutors in the remote environment at full scale.
As the director of Huawei's Media Technologies Lab has pointed out in a statement, James 'Begole, The most advanced telepresence systems today continue to offer limited results in their actual reproduction and latency, hence the development of MirrorSys to offer the complete image atmosphere, sound, environment, etc. in which the interlocutors are located, in order to create a 'zero distance' between subjects who communicate in real time.
"At the moment, Even the highest quality telepresence systems have a fixed and limited view of the world that does not match the human perception of our rich and real environment - says Begole -. We intend to change that. 'Full field communication' transports all information from one environment to another over the network, creating a true digital reflection with all views, sounds and sensations of the people in it. Immersive communications of the future will provide a sense of reality, as if one were right there, present in remote reality”.
Although there are still elements to be resolved in terms of bandwidth requirements, installation,…the MirrorSystems prototype presented at the mobility contest could be applied to the business environment, educational, tourist, commercial, given that, as the company assures, “this is just the beginning”.
