The 'First study of digital skills of the Spanish company', recently by ICEMD, the ESIC Digital Economy Institute, reflects that tourism is the sector that foresees the greatest investment in training and digital projects during the next two years.

ICEMD has presented the 'First study of digital skills of the Spanish company', which reveals the digital skills training needs of companies, since more than one 50% of tourism company managers do not receive it periodically, and in the implementation of digital projects in the tourism sector.

Increasingly aware of what this deficiency implies, and 93% of the tourism companies surveyed stated that they planned to invest in these areas in the next two years, above the rest of the sectors. Investment in digital training is the highest priority, with a 46% who plans to do so in said period.

Vancouver Tourism CenterAccording to the study, and 82% of the companies in this sector have an online store and even a 68% has mobile apps to develop its activity and offer services and products to its clients. Besides, tourism companies are among the most advanced in the implementation of digital functions, with a 83% of the sample.

In this 'First study on digital skills in Spanish companies', and 63% of the companies in the five sectors studied (services, industry, retail, transportation and tourism) have fundamental digital functions implemented, although only one 27% of them has a specific position to develop them.

Tourism24hours ExtremaduraICEMD has developed a Digital Competence Index (ICD) taking into account all the factors together and giving a 'grade' to Spanish companies in this aspect. And 39% of tourism companies have a low ICD, regarding a low 17% that they do have as a priority. So, This sector has a 'note' of 16,72 on a total of 100 points, which places it in second place after services (24,61) and ahead of retail (16,24).

For Enrique Benayas, director general de ICEMD, “The study was born with the aim of being a fundamental tool for managers and companies that want to know the market situation, of their sectors and their companies regarding digital skills. Besides, shows an excellent photo of such strategic aspects as which are the most important digital disciplines, “the digital skills associated with these disciplines or the digital positions that companies should fill them”.
