Repsol Guide 2016 was presented with an innovative audiovisual show reproduced on the tables and plates of the attendees
For this project we used 6 Christie DWU555-GS laser diode projectors with 1DLP technology, WUXGA resolution and 5.400 ANSI lumens. The equipment was hung vertically from the ceiling above the tables and had optical lenses. 1,5.
BNC Audiovisuals used six GS Series projectors Christie to create the original mapping that starred in the presentation in Madrid of the Repsol Guide 2016, the first travel guide to Spain.
The presentation consisted of an audiovisual show combined with the tasting of dishes and a masterclass. It was held at the Repsol Campus in Madrid and was directed by the events agency MacGuffin. The artistic direction was carried out by One Cinema, while the graphics agency Romera was responsible for the audiovisual content. The idea was to offer an act that would reinforce complicity with the 66 journalists summoned.
“It was an innovative mapping in which one of the gastrotourism routes proposed in the Guide was reproduced on the tables., with the products serving as a story line to get to know Spain. Images were also projected on each of the dishes of the 20 diners, “which made the technical challenge of mapping even greater”, explains Borja González, manager of BNC Audiovisuales.
The event surprised attendees by not being the typical institutional talk, but was focused at all times on the experiences and sensations one has when traveling., since the presentation simulated a sensory journey through Spain without leaving Madrid through a mapping carried out on two tables of 3×1,70 meters in which there were 20 diners virtually tasting the best Cantabrian dishes.
Oscar Teston, de One Cinema, remember the action in detail: “When MacGuffin called us to carry out this project, we didn't think twice.; We really wanted the challenge of telling a story on a table and for each diner to have their own experience.. We had to make the visual production believable for a person sitting in a chair with a point of view very close to the projection. We needed maximum resolution and minimum noise and that's when we thought about WUXGA projectors with laser technology. The rest was hard work in post-production and 3D.”.
Six Christie DWU555-GS laser diode projectors with 1DLP technology were used to carry out the project., WUXGA resolution and 5.400 ANSI lumens. The equipment was hung vertically from the ceiling above the tables and had optical lenses. 1,5. Three of the machines projected on one table and the other three on the other, each covering a third of the image.
“The projectors were key to choosing us for this project, since they wanted super quiet equipment”, underlines Borja González from BNC Audiovisuales, who also highlights other characteristics of the equipment. “They have an extraordinary light flux compared to lamp projectors. They also have very low energy consumption. We are talking about 520 watts against 1.500 o 2.000 that consumes a lamp projector of the same brightness level. Y, of course, their 20.000 hours of operation without the need to replace lamps or filters mean that in the end everything is savings”.
The use of blending and warping was key to fitting the images precisely on the tables on which they were projected., especially on the diners' plates. To manage the projections, the Dataton Watchout system was used and worked at a resolution of 3,240×1.920 so that the effects were as realistic as possible.
“We needed a lot of light on the surface where we were going to project. And we had to put six projectors of almost 6.000 lumens in a very small space, so working with anything other than a laser was going to be impossible due to the noise.. In that sense, The projectors used were very quiet, and in terms of quality, resolution, "luminosity and sharpness were perfect", remember Alfredo Cañas, MacGuffin CTO, referring to the challenges posed by the event.
