The warehouses Forever21 were not well known in the English market and therefore decided to implement a solution that will cause a great impact with its first store in the United Kingdom. To do this, A large format videowall has been implemented on its façade. This was to be part of the front of the establishment and was required to fill a large area., Two-storey, next to the entrance of the store.

When the façade of the physical store is formed, Safety and longevity issues were paramount, Displays would need to be robust enough to withstand physical assault to ensure maximum continuous performance with easy access for maintenance.

NEC and Unicol at Forever21An additional glass façade would be expensive and pose a problem for cleaning due to the great proximity of the videowall. The large size and configuration of the project required high adaptability and presented a challenge in terms of installing and mounting the displays in a vertical 3 display configuration.×7.

For the realization of the videowall was chosen by the technology of NEC Display and for the mounting system it was chosen to Unicol, whose brand distributes in the Iberian market Techex, who has designed and built the bespoke stand.

“As with many AV installations, The timescale was scarce and from the study of the site to the design signed by the American architects, It took only four days with delivery and installation start nine days later”, comments Rachel Hunt, Marketing Director of Unicol.

The mounting system of the Unicol videowall used columns as a frame to fix the individual videowall supports. The installation required 21 NEC displays 46 inches mounted on 3 wide and 7 high in portrait orientation.

This meant that the structure had to be eight meters high using two sets of columns of 2×4 meters together. The mount for each screen had adjustments in all planes incorporated as standard, allowing the screens to be joined together precisely.

NEC and Unicol at Forever21Before the column structure was lifted into place, The screen-mount backplates were positioned using a clamping system that slid along the columns, Designed specifically for the videowall. The entire structure was lifted and bolted into place.

The integrator Nexus-on-Demand used option cards for Daisy DVI chain boards to split the screens and the videowall was managed by a 10MP PC player to produce exceptional resolution.

Video Capture Gesture technology was supplied by the American manufacturer Space 150 And it caused a sensation when buyers passing through the videowall witnessed that all the content moved in their direction of travel.. Footprints have been placed in the lobby for people to stand and play the swipe of a smartphone to make content travel back and forth using their hand movements..

The very strict timescales imposed by the retailer meant that all parties had to move quickly to support the project..

NEC's status as a total solution provider is based on its expertise, Knowledge and close working relationship with your solution providers, a network within which Nexus On-Demand and Unicol have long been partners.

“The installation was challenging and had to take place throughout the night behind protective fences.. With so many parties involved and being a unique solution, It was essential that we were well prepared.", explains Gary Mills, Director of Decorum-Technology.

A giant eight-meter videowall now dominates the storefront creating a hugely impressive showcase that attracts shoppers with interactive gestural technology.. Forever21 seized a unique selling opportunity and raised the bar in terms of consumer expectations.
