Daktronics analyzes the impact of its engineering and experience in NPP Led displays during ISE 2018
The manufacturer has confirmed again in ISE 2018 that the market trend is high-density LED and chip on board screens, as Iván del Río assures, South Europe Regional Manager en Daktronics.
The participation of Daktronics at the recent celebration of WHEREAS 2018 has been marked on this occasion by a very special event: its fiftieth anniversary of activity, which has been accompanied by the presentation of the new generation of high-resolution or high-density LED screens, and chip on board innovation.
This is how Iván del Río explains it in this video interview, South Europe Regional Manager en Daktronics: “We have integrated our own control and communication platform - called ProLink - into the screens., which provides much more depth and calibration capacity; control and brightness management, among other benefits”.
ProLink architecture allows integration of the display with all control systems, video processing and even own content managers. Large stadiums are an example of the possibilities offered by installing high-resolution screens with ProLink through the control system for live events, also own of the company, “which opens up many possibilities of use in this type of installations”, this manager points out.
Another of its benefits is the use of the IDM, the intelligent screen management system, “to have direct access to them; solve possible technical problems and even foresee some (like temperature, strain,..) thanks to the intelligence of the system, which sends a notification to the technician for their information. This is very useful in signal redundancy and power supply systems., since when a module loses any of them, “It continues to work because the rest provides the power that is needed.”.
Del Río points out that high-resolution screens have also brought some challenges, “due to a certain complexity in its installation and maintenance, due to the high density of LEDs and their alignment; “The latter is a critical element to have a good image on the screen”. For this, Daktronics has developed tools for fixing and removing modules that maintain the alignment of LEDs, while when one retires the rest do not suffer.
Another of the manufacturer's bets is HDR technology, and this is what it looked like this year at their stand, with spectacular content, “where dark areas with shadows or blacks are no longer completely opaque, but you see image content, even if it doesn't have much light. This depth of color and brightness is going to change the technology on the market a lot.. When 4K was introduced, much more pixels were achieved, and with HDR we get better quality pixels”, Del Río assures.
Year of celebrations and projects
Intense work, projects and opportunities define Daktronics' activity last year, as Iván del Río remembers: “the project for the Copa del Rey Basketball Cup at the Gran Canaria Arena, where we have the central scoreboard installation for the most important and impressive basketball stadium in Spain. Also noteworthy is the installation of a screen for the main exterior façade of El Corte Inglés in Lisbon, of 200 m2 and curve, which has achieved an impressive effect”.
The company is immersed in projects in football stadiums of the highest level, “which have great complexities and challenges at a structural and architectural level. The integration of new LED screen technologies is being done at a very important level, like our facility in Los Falcons, an Atlanta: a stadium that now has an impressive 360º Halo screen, with a total surface area that exceeds 7.000 m2 and is, definitely, “one of the paths of the future in sports stadiums”.
In the European market the company is working intensively on this type of projects: “we have two in Spain, one in Italy and one in Portugal. They are of such magnitude that thanks to the engineering capacity and experience of Daktronics we became a fundamental partner from the beginning of the project.. The main obstacle is still the lack of regulations applicable to this activity., “which makes many town councils and public administrations reluctant to allow new facilities”, this manager emphasizes.
