Bose brings cutting-edge sound to a century-old space
A sound system consisting of three MSA12X modules in a linear arrangement on each side of the stage has been installed in the Clark University auditorium..
In the Daniels Theater auditorium of the Clark University, and Worcester, A new sound system based on self-powered speakers with controllable direction has been installed on each side of the stage., Panaray MSA12X two Bose Professional.
To integrate this solution, Those responsible for the project had to face a double challenge to provide sound in a space that dates back to the Victorian era and has the capacity to 640 personas: achieve great sound with absolute coverage, but without affecting the aesthetic appearance of the place, working in the least intrusive way to respect its architecture as much as possible.
The solution to sound the Daniels Theater consisted of a Panaray MSA12X speaker system that met all the requirements. The Bose Professional system integration was a joint effort by audio technology distributors Woburn, subsidiary of Professional Audio Associates de Massachusetts, and Bedford company design and installation, which is part of Integrated Multimedia Solutions.
Jim Cormier, Director of Campus Media Services at Clark University, He comments that keeping the architectural style intact was of utmost importance and “it was also crucial that the coverage be complete and consistent.”. The theater has a balcony, under which there is a seating area. Bringing the sound right to that area was always complicated, the previous sound system, used during 20 years, couldn't solve it”.
The Audio Associates integration team joined forces with Integrated Multimedia Solutions to analyze site conditions and find a solution. They both came to the same conclusion.: It would be best to use the Bose Panaray MSA12X.
These speakers are compact and do not obstruct your view, so part of the problem was solved. With its DSP, digital control and directionality of the vertical coverage patterns of the array are facilitated, in addition to having connectivity with Dante. In this way, the user only needs a CAT6 cable and avoids filling the place with cables.
The installed system consists of three MSA12X modules in a linear arrangement on each side of the stage.
“A system similar to the previous one would have required reinforcement speakers to cover the entire theater.”, some with delay for the balcony area. Panaray MSA12X compatibility with Dante simplified work, since we only need a CAT-6 cable to connect the amplifiers and digital audio processors to each speaker. The technology to control the directionality of the speakers allows us to cover both the seats at floor level, like the elevated. With a single system we overcome the challenge of installing modern sound in a very old space”, explains Bob Morin, de Integrated Multimedia Solutions.
