Planning an MFS

For meeting spaces MFS An LED video wall has been chosen Planar IMF, with a pixel pitch of 1,2, in configuration of 5×5. And in the research room, two TVF1.2 video walls have been installed in 4×4.

Founded in 1924, MFS Investment Management It is one of the oldest investment companies in the world, with almost a century of active management experience. Based in Boston, It has offices around the world and is credited with creating the first investment fund, el Massachusetts Investors Trust, that still works today.

In the two meeting spaces, located at the company's corporate headquarters in Boston, existing video wall systems had reached the end of their useful life, which led MFS to start searching for an optimal replacement solution. “We were looking for the most current technology and wanted to avoid having to make significant architectural changes., since both rooms had been custom designed to adapt to the previous video walls”, comment Brian Katziff, director of the audiovisual group at MFS Investment Management.

The spaces include an executive boardroom and a meeting area that MFS calls 'the research room'. Each has been designed with a specific display technology need.

“The executive board room is used as a meeting place for senior company officials and to receive visiting clients., so it is important to have a really attractive display piece for presentations”, Katziff explains.. “The research room is the place where investors meet to discuss strategies. Often, This includes customers., as well as people who connect by videoconference from various places in the world”.

The consultation process reaches Planar TVF

To help identify the best display and rendering technology for these spaces, MFS hired the audiovisual integrator and technology solutions provider Adtech Systems. Senior account executive and systems designer Jim Ares subsequently led MFS through a research process to evaluate the full range of options.

“We did a fairly extensive design and budget exercise. We learn a lot about video wall systems, like pixel pitch, resolution and background video processing. We examine how they planned to use display technology, including what would be shown”, Ares clarifies.

The evaluation of the use case was a key aspect. “Video wall technologies are very specific for the environments in which their installation is requested. For example, in a sports bar must be able to withstand extreme conditions from possible flying objects and liquids, and mainly displays one type of content, while that of a financial institution has a very different specification due to the environment and may have a budget accordingly”.

An important part of the approach for both rooms revolved around content needs and the choice of the ideal pixel pitch to ensure that the visibility of data and graphics was optimized throughout the space.. Other factors that were taken into account were the cost of the pixel pitch, the guarantee, maintenance programs, serviceability and power requirements.

Adtech Systems installed an LED video wall in the executive board room Planar TVF of almost 3 meters long and 1,5 tall with a pixel pitch of 1,2 mm (TVF1,2), in a configuration of 5×5. In the research room, another 5 TVF1.2 system has been installed×5 which is flanked on both sides by a model with similar characteristics in configurations of 4×4.

A visual statement

In both rooms, Led Planar TVF video walls make a major statement and greatly enhance MFS's ability to highlight and communicate research, ideas and information.

“The screens are very impressive, There isn't a bad seat in the house.”, comments Katziff. “They show a lot of data, whether spreadsheets, graphics, PowerPoint o archivos PDF, and the clarity and sharpness of the content exceeds what we had with previous systems. Makes presentations more dynamic and easier to understand”.

Adtech was able to integrate the video walls into the predominant constructions of each room without adding additional power or cooling requirements.. “Planar TVF displays are sized to fit existing display technology”, says Ares.
