Innovae develops a project with Mixed Reality for the automotive industry
With the SAAM tool and Mixed Reality technology, Innovate has designed a solution to digitize quality control processes, optimized its execution. The project has been implemented in the company Meleghy Automotive.
Innovate has developed a solution, using the technology of Mixed Reality, for the Automotive Industry Cluster of Catalonia (CIAC), that improves quality control processes in the caliber of stamped parts. The deployment of the project, which has been supervised to obtain metrics by the consulting firm Improva, has been implemented in the company Meleghy Automotive.
The objective of this project is to digitize the quality control process, facilitating and improving its execution by both experienced and novice workers. For this, the latest generation device is used Microsoft Hololens 2, that overlays virtual step-by-step instructions to guide the operator through the process. This technology allows operators to quickly adapt to the new system to speed up the quality control process..
Another functionality that has been implemented, is the insertion of information related to the execution of each step, so that the reporting related to the quality control traceability of each piece has been digitized. By incorporating this function into the glasses themselves, it becomes unnecessary to fill out paper reports at the end of the process.
The solution developed by Innovae is based on its product TOGETHER, that uses holographic technology to visualize guided step-by-step processes and digitize critical knowledge, that is generated every day in the factory, This being a very valuable resource that can determine, largely, the degree of efficiency of the workers.
The result of the joint work between the companies and the CIAC has made it possible to demonstrate that the application of Mixed Reality can optimize the execution of complex processes.
During the project, the inefficiency and unreliability of quality controls with manuals and paper reporting has been confirmed., which limit the worker by keeping their hands busy and slowing down the execution of their tasks. As an alternative, Innovae has proposed a solution for more agile operations, simple and intuitive in the technical environment, comprehensively optimizing the training system for new operators.
The learning curve for novice operators is minimized from several hours to a few minutes, and it is possible to increase both the efficiency of the production process and its reliability..
The benefits are also clearly manifested in experienced workers, who developed the process 15% faster than usual, according to metrics obtained by Improva. At the development and implementation cost level, Return on investment is generated in just a few months, turning Mixed Reality technology into a safe and attractive bet for the automotive sector.
Mixed Reality transforms the workspace of technicians, making critical knowledge about operations available to you in a simple and agile way, also allowing to standardize the training of new workers.
In addition, offers a digitalized environment in which dependencies on tacit knowledge of experts are avoided and a zero-paper environment is fostered. Meleghy's quality control process is now more reliable thanks to step-by-step instructions in Mixed Reality, that allow any operator to execute the process safely.
