Sonobox equips your studio with Genelec SAM monitors
Intended for multichannel mixing and format Dolby Atmos, the monitoring of Genelec brings cutting-edge tools to the studio 2 of Sonobox for your music production projects.
With more than twenty-five years in the market, Sonobox It is one of the first studios in Madrid “governed and inspired for musicians and producers”, to those who offer all the services inherent in the process of musical production, with two rooms non environment, created by acoustic specialists Philip Newell y Reflexion Arts to provide a neutral and precise sound.
“The way to be able to maintain a studio and production company for nearly thirty years,” he explains. Manuel Colmenero-, It has always been about trying to evolve hand in hand with technology, the new musical proposals and the profound structural change that has occurred in the industry. Always be attentive and adapt to all these changes and never lose along the way, the enthusiasm and love for the job”.
To continue with this trajectory and have the latest technology, Sonobox has equipped its studio 2 with a monitoring system Genelec, capable of providing the best tools Dolby Atmos. This recording room, with calibration carried out by Dolby Labs, It has variable acoustics and clear and natural sound, combining the best of the analog and digital world.
As Colmenero adds, “There is a very productive interaction between the two studies. Many productions are created at a creative level in the studio 2, but they are recorded and mixed and mastered in stereo in the studio1, and then return to 2 and finish mixing in Atmos”.
The study 1 Sonobox is equipped with active monitors SAM 1238A three-way and 15”, while in the new study 2 eight have been installed SAM 8220A, three models SAM 8340A and a subwoofer SAM 7360A.
The 8320A monitor, a compact two-way SAM active unit, incorporates a 4” bass transducer and a ¾” treble transducer with metal dome and DCW, as well as amplification of 50 W in bass and 50 W in treble.
The two-way SAM 8340A model has a 6.5” bass transducer and the same transducer as the previous model, Although it has an amplification of 150 W in bass and 150 W in treble.
For your part, The SAM 7360A self-amplified subwoofer incorporates a 10” speaker, housed in a proprietary enclosure Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE), providing more output with precise bass articulation and very low distortion. It is equipped with a Class D amplifier, designed and manufactured by Genelec.
Manuel Colmenero's experience as a producer, musician and sound engineer has provided him with solid foundations to objectively and knowledgeably evaluate a monitor system.
“At this point in my professional life, My perception is that the best monitor you will always have is the one you know best. After trying different systems over the years, I have been discarding monitors that seem too 'clinical' to me, which give an excessive breakdown of music that I believe inherently does not exist. Also with 'hard' monitors, with whom listening and working with music is not a pleasant experience”.
In this process, Colmenero highlights “the translation and musicality that any of the Genelec models have.. In my opinion, There is a false belief in your equipment and that is that 'you don't make an effort to refine the sound because everything sounds good from the beginning'. Like any monitor, requires a learning curve and, once acquired, you also learn to discern what sounds bad and good, and what areas or focuses you should focus on to improve”.
As for the software GLM from this manufacturer, Colmenero is clear: “It makes things a lot easier.”, for the acoustic adjustment it makes of your room. In the case of Sonobox, the rooms have impressive acoustic control thanks to the work of Philip Newell, but I understand that, in other less controlled environments, GLM is a crucial help. In addition to changing in seconds from the Atmos system to 2.1, 5.1 etc, and have a calibration for this for each of them, also depending on the listening position in the room”.
The Sonobox project “has been very satisfactory so far, and we must highlight the work of Roberto Lopez, of Audio-Technica Iberia, for all the advice and professional service you have provided with us”.
