Digital Projection and Artabesk illuminated the Sharjah festival
Nearly 60 projectors Digital Projection, included 46 Titan Laser 37000 WU and 13 M-Vision 23000 WU, were behind the most dazzling displays of recent Sharjah Light Festival.
He Sharjah Light Festival has just celebrated its 13th edition and in its 12 days long history has shown, the heritage and architecture of the emirate of the same name with a carnival of lights, colors and music. Artabesk, videomapping specialist and immersive content creator based in Dubai, turned to the teams Digital Projection to create visual experiences, including a 300x50 meter projection on a mountainside.
It is the largest of its kind in the region and invites internationally renowned artists to celebrate the city's built and natural environment, using large-scale projections to illuminate and reimagine iconic locations such as the Sharjah Mosque, the largest temple in the city, and the spectacular Hajjar mountains, that overlook the Al Rafisah Dam.
The Al Rafisah Dam, It is located in a picturesque setting surrounded by greenery and sandstone mountains, an hour's drive from the city of Sharjah.. During the Sharjah Light Festival it was the scene of The Jewel of Al Rafisah Dam, and 3D projection show inspired by the 'Golden Age of Sharjah', focusing on the ancient history of the city of Khorfakkan and the native flora and fauna of the United Arab Emirates. At the climax, 12 Swans emerge from the mountain behind the dam and dance on the waters of the Wadi Shie River.
With content created by Artabesk, The Jewel of Al Rafisah Dam It was the first time that visual content was projected on a mountain of that size, a feat that involved several challenges, as Mounir Harbaoui explains, founder and CEO of Artabesk. “We had two main challenges for this projection: the luminosity, since the mountain is brownish in color, like stone, and the multiple shadows that the mountain creates, since it is not a flat surface”.
To overcome these obstacles, Artabesk turned to Titan Laser 37000 WU, a DLP projector 3 chips whose output 37000/31000 (WUXGA/4K-UHD) lumens makes it ideal for large outdoor applications.
“We decided to use our new Titan Laser 37000, since it is capable of projecting up to 40 meters from each projector”, explains Mounir Harbaoui, explaining how his team tackled the glare problem. “We also turn off the street lights to create a completely dark environment”.
The second challenge was resolved by concentrating the 16 Titan Laser projectors 37000 WU at a point on the mountain, ”which resulted in a very clear image when viewed from the area where the public was”, adds Mounir Harbaoui.
Unlike the projection on the mountain of the Al Rafisah Dam, which included moving images and music, in the case of the Sharjah Artabesk mosque it was limited to still images, given the sensitivities associated with projection onto a religious site. Despite this, The powerful and ultra-bright images generated by the Titan Laser projectors made the mosque, surprisingly illuminated, It will be considered one of the highlights of the festival.
Digital Projection supported Artabesk throughout the festival, confirm Mounir Harbaoui, celebrating the latest cooperation between the manufacturer and your company. “We always have on-site support when needed and the Dubai-based Artabesk and Digital Projection team, directed by Alex Gnatyuk, They always collaborate to ensure that the projectors are in the best condition for each installation”.
