When Belfast Distillery Company McConnell set out to preserve the legacy of Irish whiskey, a brand that dates back to 1776, They decided to take over wing A of the prison. Crumlin Road Gaol and turn it into a visitor attraction. Y, for it, It has been equipped with a sound infrastructure that is based on Martin Audio equipment, designed and specified by your partner Sale Sound AV.
Roger McMullan, director of Rea Sound, faced the challenge of specifying a viable system within a difficult space, to allow guided tours to uncover the history of this iconic Belfast distillery brand in a setting dating back to 1845.
“At that time it was a construction site, since they had removed the floors and roof to place the distillation tanks. It was obvious to me that we should use a combination of Martin Audio CDD6 and Adorn A55 speakers., so we made the specifications”.
Up to eight different groups of tourists can tour the building at the same time. After checking in at the reception, where announcements are made and background music played through eight Adorn A55s, a tour guide takes visitors through a labyrinthine route: through the boardroom, the tasting and maturation, and that of experience, ending at the bar & Atrium, which is located on the top floor of the three-story building. Here you can stand at the glass door and enjoy the views of the reception area, two floors down.
In the client's boardroom, the only space not open to the general public, four more Adorn A55s are found, which are part of a total complement of 36 of these products. Supplied in white and with a compact size they can be hidden discreetly in furniture or mounted on the wall.
“We selected Adorn for its compact size and value for money”, says McMullan.. “We have used it a lot for fills and vestibules in the past, but this is the first time we've actually used it with anger“.
The tour initially takes visitors to The Board Room, that has public access, and here you are offered an introductory video presentation of Pepper's Ghost. To improve the presence and realism of the played video, has been added a subwoofer Martin Audio SX110.
When the tour guide enters each room, the microphone of Audio-Technica reactivated via dedicated remote wall panel where a separate system also serves the hearing impaired.
Martin Audio's only pair of CDD6s can be found in the bar area, which marks the end of the tour and are, In fact, six former prison cells combined. The idea of specifying the most powerful CDDs has in mind the future idea of promoting live bands. “They will also organize special evenings for corporate clients, that will be able to connect their own mixing console, so they wanted a little more quality and coverage”, continued Roger McMullan.
All speakers are assigned to three of Martin Audio's VIA2004 amplifiers, that feed the entire system, while the processing is under the command of a Allen & Heath AHM.
“The depth of knowledge and experience has allowed us to create a great overall system”, says Graeme Millar. “Ease of use for us has been important, since the adaptability and reliability exceeded everything we asked for. The customized location system also makes it easy for our staff to easily advertise in the required areas.”.
