Disguise boosts Adele's outdoor LED video wall in Munich to the Guinness record
With an innovative installation created to measure –Adele Arena-, technological collaboration between Solotech, Disguise, ROE Visual, entre otras empresas AV, has led to global recognition Guinness of the largest continuous Led screen for outdoors, of 4.159,7 m2, with a pioneering stage production.
More than 75.000 fans of the British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adele have filled each of the ten shows offered last August, with a total of about 750.000 personas, in the so-called Adele Arena, a special enclosure created to suit the artist.
A prominent and protagonist element of this installation is a gigantic outdoor Led screen, of 220 meters long and 20 high, the largest of its kind so far built that has entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
To play large immersive videos in the background on this mega screen during Adele's performances, the Disguise technology, specialist in large outdoor shows such as Coachella, and indoor like Eurovision, to name a few.
On this occasion and for the first time in his career, Disguise team projected images on the largest continuous outdoor LED screen, which meant a pioneering stage production to help create, Synchronize and display visual effects on this LED surface 4.159,7 m2, mounted simulating a film strip.
“This Adele residence in Munich is like nothing that has ever been done before.”. There is no template or comparison, only possibilities -explains Ian ‘Woody’ Woodall, director of world tours and special projects Solotech-. What makes this show revolutionary is not just the scale of the Led screen, that breaks all records, but the innovative thinking that has made it possible. “This production redefines the way of experiencing live entertainment”.
For this project, Solotech acquired more than 5.000 m2 of ROE Visual Led screens, “overcoming global shipping challenges to make this ambitious vision a reality, the result of which has been the largest temporary outdoor Led screen ever installed, that extended across the entire stage to create a Immersive, seamless viewing experience”.
As Woodall points out, The scale of this project was unprecedented, “but what really set it apart was the innovative thinking and engineering behind it”.
Solotech collaborated with industry partners to develop the largest hanging assembly never built, which supports approximately 250 tons of Led panels, lighting and more.
The intricate design of the display required custom solutions to hide all the supports, ensuring the Led screen maintained a pristine appearance, similar to that of infinity, without any visible structural element.
Precision was paramount, so the Solotech team worked from detailed 3D models, making sure that every anchor point and weight calculation was accurate. The final construction reflected the digital designs to the millimeter, which allowed the screen components to fit together perfectly, no spaces.
The success of the project has been the result of close collaboration between Solotech and its technological partners, including ROE Visual, Brompton Technology, Disguise, Twenty Three y BY Stumpfl.
“Our Partnerships with manufacturers were crucial to achieve it in such tight deadlines - says Woodall -. Working alongside the visionary Adele team and other suppliers, we have been able to overcome the limits than anyone thought possible. It is this spirit of collaboration and innovation the one that has made possible the Guinness record for the largest outdoor Led screen. I want to congratulate everyone who has participated and the team that has made this achievement a reality”.
To ensure that all high-resolution visual effects - from close-ups of Adele to stunning fires – They will show themselves perfectly, the Solotech systems integrator worked with the programmer Richard Turner and the set design team Stufish.
Together, they used eight Disguise GX3 servers to feed the megascreen with total redundancy 1:1, ensuring that the entire Led canvas remained perfectly synchronized between the machines. They also used eighteen SDI VFC cards, which allowed the servers output SDI natively to LED processors, eliminating the need for further conversion.
The show was sequenced according to time code, and the software Designer de Disguise composed the rendered visuals, Notch effects and capture inputs to offer maximum flexibility to the team Treatment Studio.
“With tens of thousands of spectators, perfection has been our goal every night -he emphasizes Lizzie Pocock, Treatment Studio producer. When you work with such large screens, there is nowhere to hide. Disguise gives us the confidence to consistently deliver flawless video playback. Its reliability and flexibility, together with the possibility of rapidly iterating in situ, They are invaluable, which allows us to focus our energy on creativity”.
Emily Malone, Disguise Live Events Manager, underlines that “we are proud to have played an essential role in making these concerts such an immersive experience.”, personal and unforgettable for Adele fans”.
