LG reinforces its robotics strategy with the acquisition of Bear Robotics
The majority share of LG in Bear Robotics, specialized in autonomous robots powered by AI, strengthens its strategy to promote this type of solutions in commercial environments, industrial and domestic.
Based in Silicon Valley (California – EU), Bear Robotics is an emerging company dedicated to the development of autonomous robots powered by artificial intelligence, mainly for the service sector, which will now be controlled as a majority shareholder by LG.
Specifically, LG's board of directors has already made an acquisition of a 21% in March 2024, in which a future purchase option of a 30% additional. It is this last percentage that is executed in this exercise, so that The Korean brand already has a 51% de BearRobotics, which will now work like subsidiary company of the multinational.
This is what he points out Lee Sam-soo, LG Electronics strategy director: “This new investment shows our vision for positioning robots as a fundamental growth engine for the company.”, and our conviction that they will be fundamental in the future. We will continue to drive innovation in all areas of robotics, including its application in the commercial field, industrial and domestic.
As part of this strategic move, the LG commercial robots division, focused mainly on the Locking Modelos (more details in Digital AV), will integrate with Bear Robotics, whose team included its CEO, John Ha, will remain in office to ensure stable business continuity and create synergies.
Founded in 2017, Bear Robotics has gained market recognition in recent years for its AI-powered delivery robots for closed environments., with presence in the United States, South Korea and Japan.
The company stands out for its experience in coordinating multiple robots, remote fleet management and its advanced platform based on artificial intelligence.
In the field of robots industriales, LG is driving significant change through its Smart Factory division. Thanks to the work of the Production Engineering Research Institute, The company is achieving notable growth in revenue by integrating artificial intelligence into the digital transformation of its processes..
An example of this is the so-called Robot autonomous vertical articulated, which includes ssensors composed of cameras, radar and LiDAR to perceive your surroundings, move efficiently, supply materials and execute tasks with your robotic arm, facilitating seamless automation across a wide range of tasks.
As you have pointed out William Cho, LG CEO, “los robots son a secure future”, in addition to revealing that the company has expansion plans beyond the current focus on logistics and service delivery.
In this sense, the domestic robots segment will be integrated into the LG Home Appliance Solution division, in order to offer a complete experience to accurately analyze the well-being of family members and coordinate with home appliances and services.
An example of this category is Autonomous Home-Hub with AI (project called Q9), whose launch is scheduled for within a year and which has voice recognition and synthesis technology from Microsoft.
Q9 takes advantage of its capabilities multimodal detection, including voice recognition, sound and image, along with autonomous driving technology. This information allows this robot to navigate any closed environment easily., Accurately identify the status of users and respond to their needs effectively by connecting and controlling home appliances and IoT devices.
