Meyer Sound Elevates Cinema and Live Performance Capabilities in One Space
An acoustic infrastructure integrated by the new generation of Constellation has been installed in this cultural center in Norway., together with the Nadia digital audio platform of Meyer Sound. This solution is combined with a cinema system Dolby Atmos.
Grimstad Culture House, the cultural center located in the heart of the Norwegian coastal city that gives it its name, has expanded its audio capabilities with an innovative installation based on Meyer Sound Constellation and a cinema system Dolby Atmos.
This installation, that elevates the capabilities of cinema and live performance space Pan Theater in Grimstad Cultural Center, is the first in Europe to use the new generation of Constellation together with the platform of the audio disguising Nadice Sound. This combination takes advantage of the latest advances in digital signal processing to improve power, flexibility and scalability of the system, allowing for more discrete zones for higher resolution and more nuanced adaptability.
Central to the versatility of this infrastructure is a sophisticated system of custom-designed mechanical speaker supports developed by the project integrator., Lillehammer Technical Bureau (LTB), who has collaborated with Meyer Sound on several Constellation installations throughout Norway.
These stands allow your venue speakers to instantly transform from Constellation active acoustic enhancement to Dolby Atmos theatrical presentation.. The system is also capable of offering Multi-channel immersive surround and special effects, controlled by the spatial sound design and mixing tool Spacemap Go de Meyer Sound.
Rolf Meyer Tallaksen, gerente de Grimstad Kulturhus, explains his interest in exploring Constellation's capabilities to enhance concert performances of all genres. “As a musician, I'm thinking about having a good room to make different types of music. I reviewed Constellation and a few other acoustic systems, but when I heard Constellation, said, Yeah, this is'".
Regarding the cinematographic component, Tallaksen could have gone the traditional route and installed a separate Dolby Atmos certified system, but instead opted for a bolder approach.
“To meet speaker orientation specifications for both Atmos and Constellation, “It was clear from the beginning that LTB had to develop a solution with motorized speaker stands with horizontal and vertical movement to be able to switch between the two positions with the push of a button.”, explains Børre Linberg. “The LTB R&D team accepted the challenge and developed a tailored solution”. The team built custom supports for 30 speakers, each capable of rotating the speaker along two axes of rotation.
The Meyer Sound Constellation installation, designed by the Meyer Sound Constellation team in collaboration with LTB, consists of 60 speakers and 24 microphones. The speakers include four MM‑4XP miniature self-powered loudspeakers, 16 of UP‑4slim ultra-compact installation, 26 HMS‑5 cinema surrounds, four HMS‑10 cinema surrounds y 10 subwoofers en miniatura MM‑10.
The cinema system, which can be configured for Dolby Atmos and surround sound 5.1 o 7.1 canales, includes three Ultra‑X40 compact point source loudspeakers, three 750‑LFC low frequency control elements, of the USW‑210P compact narrow subwoofers and six X‑400C compact cinema subwoofers.
Both system configurations are managed by a Nadia central processor along with a plataforma de red Galileo Galaxy.
The room, with capacity for 76 people in the case of cinema and a hundred in the case of live events, It has a large LED wall that is used as a background for performances and conferences; a traditional projection screen descends from the ceiling to watch movies).
Multitasking system has a complex design, but its operation is very simple. “We have a panel Crestron, where everything is programmed”, explica Tallaksen. “It is easy to use for everyone. We have one on the wall and one in the front, and an iPad that can be given to musicians”.
The collaboration between Meyer Sound, LTB and Grimstad Kulturhus not only expand the capabilities of the center, but highlights a regional movement towards the integration of cutting-edge technology in cultural spaces.
“Norway has ten spaces that use the Constellation system, which, taking into account the country's population of barely five million inhabitants, clearly speaks to the successful nature of the cooperation between LTB and Meyer Sound.”, says Linberg.
Tallaksen has demonstrated the venue's capabilities for local musicians during concert rehearsals. “I have a choir that I direct; son 45 singers. And they love the place. When we sing classical things a cappella, It's just 'wow', everywhere".
With its ability to switch between settings for various audio experiences, Grimstad Kulturhus exemplifies the future of sound technology in cultural spaces. “Kulturhus is one of the best equipped theaters we have ever made”, duck John Pellowe, Meyer Sound project manager, Constellation Systems. “Can multitask when it comes to large-scale sound”.
