Ideum contributes its visual solutions to the exhibition in Valles Caldera
The interactive and multisensory experience carried out in this New Mexico National Reserve has four Presenter touch screens of 34 inches of The same thing, that function as control panels; in addition to two other 65 inches and one of 86, that will serve as digital guides.
The Ideum team has carried out the installation of the latest interactive exhibition held at the Valles Caldera National Reserve in Northern New Mexico. The project revives the history of the dormant volcano that erupted ago 1,2 millions of years.
Nestled in the Jemez Mountains of Northern New Mexico, The Valles Caldera National Reserve is one of the landscapes of greatest geological and ecological importance in the southwest.. With an extension of 88.900 acres, It is located inside a dormant volcano (but not extinct) which has created a monumental volcanic basin surrounded by grasslands, meandering streams, natural hot springs and diverse fauna.
At the moment, is managed by the National Park Service (NPS) and visitors can enjoy hiking and cycling trails, wildlife observation, fishing, stargazing and, now has a immersive exhibition and interactive that explores the origin and history of this unique national reserve.
The Ideum team has been working on this exhibition since October 2024. The project began with a design phase, in which he collaborated with the Valles Caldera team to create an engaging immersive digital experience for visitors of all ages. From the design, The project progressed to the manufacturing of the exhibition.
Ideum's exhibit manufacturing team created the topographic model en relieve CNC, display base and display stands entirely in-house.
The design process has required months of close collaboration to achieve a final product. Floating screen supports represented an engineering challenge resulting in a discreet and hidden system that integrates into the table.
The stand is attached to the center ring of the display, which gives it rigidity and structural resistance even with the weight of visitors leaning on or hanging from the screen.
The project focuses on a immersive digital experience Designed to attract visitors of all ages. A topographical relief of 3,6 meters in diameter maps the shapes and characteristics of the caldera, and animated projections bring the landscape to life, offering a dynamic perspective of geology, ecology, wildlife populations, migration patterns and cultural history of the region.
By being able to view the boiler in its entirety, visitors enjoy a unique perspective, observing how all the elements interact with each other to create the thriving ecosystem it currently has.
audiovisual technology, designed to fully immerse visitors in the park's rich natural and cultural history, surrounds the central display. And 4K projector 13.000 lumens brings to life the topographic map of 3,6 meters with animations that range from the geological formation of the caldera to cultural stories that reflect centuries of human use of the land. And surround sound system 6.1 y luces DMX synchronized on nearby walls improve user experience.
Visitors can interact with the exhibit and activate projected animations using one of four Ideum Presenter touch screens of 34″ installed on the edge of the table. Each screen features a unique collection of stories organized into four themes: Geology, Ecology, Cultural History and Scientific Discovery. These function as control panels and each one allows you to activate and explore cinematic animations that are projected on the map.
When you touch a selection, a new scene starts, with animations for various events and highlights, like volcanic activity, seasonal migration patterns, Native American tribal heritage and even pop culture history with featured images from movies and series filmed in the caldera.
Other aspects of the exhibit include lighting and surround sound, synchronized with the relief map to create a highly immersive atmosphere that captivates visitors and encourages them to explore and learn more about what makes Valles Caldera a natural wonder.
The facility also features two additional Presenter screens, one of 65 inches and another 86 inches, that will serve as digital guides to facilitate orientation and park activities in other buildings on the reserve.
The grand opening of the Volcano Discovery Center and its new exhibits will take place on 25 July, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Valles Caldera National Reserve.
