Genelec en MusikkfabrikkenKnown as the 'Fairy Tale Park'’ from Norway, Hunderfossen It is a tourist destination that welcomes more than 250.000 visitors every summer with more than 60 family attractions. Recently, presented his new adventure, The music factory (The Music Factory), an interactive exploration of classical music that combines visual art, animated characters and a state-of-the-art sound system with altavoces Genelec Smart IP.

Located in a disused 4D cinema, The Musikkfabrikken attraction was developed by Sigurd Slåttebrekk, Norwegian classical pianist and teacher, who collaborated with Hunderfossen and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, to make classical music more accessible and attractive, for both adults and children.

The Norwegian Integrator Bravo was tasked with finding a sound system capable of offering an exciting yet comfortable musical experience for visitors of all ages. The Norwegian audiovisual consultancy Benum played a key role in the success of the attraction, demoing various speaker systems for Slåttebrekk and the Bravo team.

Slåttebrekk's classic experience allowed him to know exactly what he was looking for in terms of sound quality and impact. “Sigurd actively participated in the selection process”, states Bjorn Erik Hexeberg, Benum product manager, who led the design and sound checks for Musikkfabrikken. “We did about five or six demonstrations, trying new elements every time: volume, control, etc”.

After listening to the music and sound effects mixed for attraction through each speaker, It was clear that Slåttebrekk and the Bravo team were leaning towards Genelec Smart IP.

“Not only did it sound amazing, but the control and easy integration with Q-SYS were a great advantage for the proper functioning of the interactive attraction”, explains. “During the demonstrations, We spent a lot of time talking about PoE speakers and using Q-SYS to manage the different areas. Since it constituted the backbone of the entire project, Integrating the Smart IP speakers was easy. “It gave us precise control and real-time status monitoring of each speaker.”.

Another fundamental tool was the software Smart IP Manager de Genelec, used to configure Smart IP models before integrating them with Q-SYS.

Regarding the installation, speaker placement was crucial. In the waiting room, Colorful animated characters appear on screen and perform for visitors waiting to enter the main movie screening.

“My original plan was to place the speakers in a straight line from the front to the back of the room”, explica Hexeberg. “First we installed everything in the Benum office, replicating the size, the distribution and ceiling height of each area”. The waiting room has inclined zigzag ramps, offering visitors clear visibility of the front screen. “After testing in the office, I discovered that placing speakers on the sides of the room, aligned with the observation ramps, offered a much more immersive listening experience”.

After the main movie performance, attendees access an interactive room with touch walls and projected screens. “A fundamental part of Musikkfabrikken are the interactive screens”, affirms Hexeberg.

Due to its interactive design, This room posed a much greater challenge. “Initially I wanted to place speakers under the screens, but the sound was not direct enough”, continued Hexeberg. “instead, we decided to install eight speakers 4420 on the ground and eight 4430 on the roof, complemented by four subwoofers 7360 to improve audio definition. The result is incredible. Ceiling speakers provided power and clarity directly to visitors, while underfloor speakers added depth to the immersive experience”.

Since Genelec Smart IP speakers incorporate networks Dante y AES67, the entire system could handle audio, Power and control via a single CAT cable.

“Single cable setup greatly simplified installation, as well as the laying, and minimized the need for additional power outlets, something essential for placing speakers on the floor and ceiling. The integrators managed to discreetly hide them without interfering with the interactive displays, maintaining powerful and direct surround sound”, Hexeberg adds..
