NTU transforms its teaching spaces with Extron AV solutions
The investment of the Nanyang Technological University in technology Extron has transformed its tutorial and collaboration rooms into highly flexible interactive learning environments.
The Nanyang Technological University (Nanyang Technological University – NTU) in singapore, is known for its attention to technology and innovation. To improve the collaborative learning, interactive teaching and hybrid education, has carried out a large-scale AV upgrade on 70 tutoring rooms and two collaboration rooms.
This educational center has selected the products of AV switching, Extron audio and control to create learning environments where students and instructors can share content, communicate and participate in team learning.
NTU Singapore's goal was to transform traditional lecture halls into dynamic, interactive spaces that support flipped learning models.. For this, required a intuitive AV system allowing students to ask questions from anywhere in the room, share content from their tables and present to the entire class without long delays and pauses to connect.
Beyond improving interactivity, The project posed several technical challenges. An important consideration was the management of complex cable routing to ensure an efficient and orderly installation while maintaining system reliability..
Additionally, AV control system needed to be designed for ease of use, minimizing technical barriers so that instructors could make it work with minimal training.
To optimize the user experience, NTU Singapore was looking to implement a self-service troubleshooting feature, which would allow instructors to diagnose and resolve basic problems directly from the touch screen before involving the IT department.
Scalable AV solutions
To achieve these challenges, NTU Singapore partnered with 01 Computer System and selected Extron scalable AV solutions for a standardized high-performance installation in its tutoring and collaboration rooms.
Each of the 70 NTU Singapore tutoring rooms operate with a DTP CrossPoint matrix switcher 108 4K by Extron, which provides perfect switching of 10×8 and 4K upscaling.
This system allows instructors to switch between multiple input sources and one ShareLink Pro 500 that allows content to be shared wirelessly from student and instructor devices.
To achieve optimal audio quality, Each room is equipped with a DMP digital matrix processor 64 Plus C AT from Extron and a XPA U amplifier 1004, delivering a clear and evenly distributed sound throughout the SF 26CT ceiling speakers.
Each tutoring room has a TLP Pro 1025M wall mount touchscreen by Extron, offering instructors an intuitive interface to control all aspects of the AV system, including font selection, audio levels, display device routing and system power. The interface has been designed to minimize complexity and improve usability, allowing instructors to focus on teaching rather than technology.
To make the experience even more effective, NTU has implemented a personalized self-service troubleshooting menu within the touch screen interface.
This innovative feature guides users through basic diagnostics and common problems, allowing them to resolve them quickly without requiring technical assistance. If further support is necessary, Touch screen includes a scannable QR code that instantly records a service ticket, alerting IT department staff and speeding up response time.
This combination of intuitive control tools and integrated support reflects NTU's commitment to reliability, efficiency and user autonomy in their technology-enabled learning environments.
Team and hybrid learning
The two large collaboration rooms, designed for team learning, host 29 y 35 tables respectively, where students work and share content on display devices.
To support these spaces, NTU Singapore used the XTP II CrossPoint 6400 by Extron, a modular switching matrix of 64×64, ensuring a routed OFF fast and flexible.
Each table is equipped with XTP HDMI transmitters and receivers y cables Show Me (HDMI, VGA, USB-C), allowing students to connect and present content effortlessly.
To ensure clear voice capture in discussions and hybrid learning, The system incorporates the DMP processors 128 Plus CAT with acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) and Dante audio network.
The audio is distributed evenly throughout the room with the XPA U amplifiers 2002 SB, that make it work 10 pairs of SF 26CT ceiling speakers per room, creating an immersive and balanced sound experience.
Recognizing the importance of hybrid learning, NTU Singapore has integrated the SMP streaming multimedia processor 352 by Extron, allowing double recording and live streaming.
With the LinkLicense for Kaltura, Faculty can manage and share recorded classes through the NTU Singapore learning platform. The MediaPort HDMI and Audio Scaling Bridge 200 Ensures seamless video conferencing integration, enabling high-quality remote participation.
To simplify operation, Instructors manage the system using an Extron TLP Pro 1025M touchscreen supported by a IPCP Pro 360Q xi control processor and automation modules tailored for effortless AV control.
Centralized AV system management
He software GlobalViewer Enterprise (GVE) Extron provides NTU with a centralized platform to monitor, control and manage all AV spaces on campus, including 70 tutoring rooms and two collaboration rooms.
From a single interface, IT and AV support teams can remotely access system diagnostics, Monitor device status in real time and respond to support requests, those initiated through the IT department or a classroom touch screen directly.
The software's customizable reporting tools allow NTU to track the room and show device usage trends, optimize resource allocation and proactively plan maintenance to reduce downtime. GlobalViewer Enterprise platform provides NTU with a scalable enterprise-grade AV management solution that ensures consistent system performance, improves assistance efficiency, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of your AV infrastructure.
NTU's investment in Extron technology has transformed its tutorial and collaboration rooms into highly flexible interactive learning environments. Faculty and students benefit from optimal AV switching, sharing content, with enhanced audio for presentations, team discussions or hybrid collaboration.
The inclusion of intuitive touch screen interfaces and an integrated self-service troubleshooting system has given instructors the ability to troubleshoot small problems., helping to keep your lessons going with minimal interruption.
Extron's role in enabling real-time system monitoring, Easy-to-use controls and scalable AV management is part of a broad ecosystem that has improved reliability and response time.
With GlobalViewer Enterprise software enabling campus AV system monitoring and proactive support, NTU's shared services computing team now solves many problems before they impact users, setting a new standard for AV support in higher education.
