“The Grand Hall Experience”: from train station to audiovisual experience, with a de Christie mapping
The old lobby of historic Union Station in St. Louis, currently converted into a hotel, updates the audiovisual experience “The Grand Hall Experience”, and mapping with lights, music and storytelling brought to life with technology Christie.
La experiencia, recently updated, has given a twist to its technical base with a new projection technology, multimedia servers and new and renewed content. DreamLab Immersive was responsible for designing and installing the system, selecting pure laser projectors Christie with the aim of adapting the experience to current technological standards, as he comments John Miceli, founder and executive creative director of the studio: “We have improved the resolution, fluid frame rates, the richness of color and the dynamics of the shows, while preserving the architectural integrity and magic of the space”.
Miceli and his team selected two pure laser projectors Griffyn 4K50-RGB to project over the ends of the hall ceiling. Con 50.000 lumens of brightness each, The projectors were chosen to cope with the daytime luminosity of the space, which allows LHM offer shows during the day. The two teams complement each other with 12 DWU2400-JS 1DLP laser projectors of the jazz series that offer a combined power of 285.000 lumens.
Taking new projection hardware and server capacity as a reference, DreamLab has re-rendered the contents at a resolution from 16K to 60 frames per second, which gives each scene more clarity, depth and fluid movement. “The new projectors have expanded the canvas, which has allowed us to rethink the original shows and add content to expand the story. Besides, We have been asked to create two brand new shows that will premiere this year, which brings the total to 12 new and renewed experiences performed every night. Visitors will see familiar themes, historical railway references, architectural motifs and nature sequences, but improved with a higher level of detail, more dynamic transitions and greater color fidelity”, explains Miceli.
