The Cathedral of Salamanca launches “House/Shelter/Protection for all”, spectacular videomapping controlled by Datapath FX4
Video wall drivers Datapath FX4 constitutes the central video distribution platform for “Home/Shelter/Protection for All”, latest video mapping of the experience Jerome of the Cathedral of Salamanca.
The Salamanca cathedral inaugurates an impressive immersive audiovisual installation that combines video mapping on a large scale, spatial lighting and audio as part of an Ieronimus visiting program. Under the title Home/Shelter/Protection for all, The experience transforms the cathedral's domed architecture into a dynamic narrative environment of this monument that is Unesco World Heritage.
Located in the difficult-to-access space located above the nave of the New Cathedral of the 16th century, The project posed a series of technical challenges. The installation included a long, vaulted space which required projections on opposite sides of the structure to create an immersive visual narrative.
To tackle the project, they specified six high-brightness projectors arranged in two banks of three to create images with edge fusion to 3600 × 3840 pixels on a particular canvas: the stone surfaces of the monument. The synchronization and the reproduction precise were essential, as well as that all equipment functioned correctly despite fluctuating levels of temperature and humidity.
To meet these requirements, Two controllers were selected. videowall Datapath FX4 of Vitec as a central video distribution platform. When receiving high-resolution content from a Touch Designer-based media server, the units FX4 divide and distribute the video among the six outputs of the projectors, “ensuring image coherence across the entire projection canvas”.
The system operates according to a programmed schedule with auto start and shutdown and admits daytime reproduction motion activated, as well as manually controlled guided presentations in the evening. When working in the environment of Touch Designer, The FX4 allows real-time content control and synchronization with DMX-controlled lighting and a spatial audio system 4.1.
Since its launch, the installation Home/Shelter/Protection for all has operated successfully as part of the multimedia exhibition program Jerome, welcoming thousands of visitors and offering a unique perspective on the architecture of Salamanca Cathedral. Markus Schroll, technical director of the project belonging to the Esther Pizarro Studio, considers that Datapath's FX4s have been essential for the success of the project: “Pulling out an installation of this magnitude inside a historic cathedral required complete confidence in the video infrastructure.”. (…) “Datapath’s FX4 gave us the control and stability we needed to handle complex video distribution seamlessly.”.
By Datapath, Carmen Jerez, regional sales director, She is very satisfied to have participated in a project of this “cultural and historical importance.”. “Working in an emblematic place like the Salamanca cathedral is both a privilege and a responsibility.”, “and it is gratifying to see our technology supporting a facility that enhances the visitor experience while respecting the integrity of the space.”, explains.
