The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo makes history in Australia with Brompton technology
Tessera LED video processors Brompton Technology gave a historic performance at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo's 75th anniversary tour, as this world-renowned show made a rare international appearance at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium (Australia) and in Auckland's Eden Park (New Zealand).
The Heroes Who Made Us, with more than 1100 international and local artists, came to life at the end of February thanks to an extraordinary LED installation powered by a processor LED Tessera SX40 4K and a data distribution system XD 10G card, with full redundancy, all implemented and managed by Creative Technology Australia & New Zealand.
The LED installation was on a scale nothing short of monumental. In Australia, The main wall at the back of the stage measured 50×22 m, with a cut of 32×4 meters in the center, which added up to a total of 875 square meters of ROE V6ST. A proscenium wall of approximately 40.2x 9,6 metros, of some 250 square meters in its final configuration, used CB5 in T4 frames. A slightly smaller configuration was installed in Auckland, but just as impressive, using ROE MC7 on the backstage screen and ROE CBz5 on the proscenium screen. On the whole, the screens created an immersive visual backdrop befitting the grandeur of the Tattoo's 75th anniversary celebrations.
The choice of LED products was due to the team's familiarity with the equipment, as well as practical considerations on site. The volume of product available, combined with the weight of the panels, integrated wind reinforcements and modularity that allows for real-time maintenance, made this configuration the natural choice for an outdoor stadium environment. Each installation was completed in just two days, speed of deployment being essential to meet client deadlines.
Color reliability
A technically critical aspect of the show was the use of on-screen images, which required the entire system to be End-to-end synchronized with minimal latency, a feature that comes standard with the Tessera SX40. Las OSCA and DynaCal functions of the processor were also essential, as they ensured a large, uniform canvas and color consistency across the multiple types of LEDs used. Reliability, as usual, It was essential, and the Brompton system provided the confidence to deliver flawless performance at multiple shows.
Para el Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, was a historic first: The organization had never before used screens of this magnitude in its actions. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive., and was put to the ultimate test because of time. It rained during rehearsals and at all the shows, but the LED system did not suffer a single failure.
“Working on a show of this magnitude and importance, and in these conditions, requires absolute confidence in your technology”, states Jeremy Moore, display director at Creative Technology Australia & New Zealand. “The Brompton system gave us exactly that. We had two days to set up these giant screens, and the speed and reliability of Brompton processing was essential for everything to go well. The end customer, BRAKES, He was using displays of this size for the first time and was really impressed by the performance. Not having a single problem despite all that rain is proof of how robust Creative Technology's system and processes are.”.
The representations of The Heroes Who Made Us in Brisbane and Auckland they had artists from Norway, Japan, Tonga and Australia, along with large groups of bagpipes and drums, military bands, the Top Secret Drum Corps and folk dancers, a truly international celebration commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Tattoo. The shows were highly anticipated and many sold out., if not all, the representations.
“The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most iconic live events in the world, so see how it incorporates LED screens on this scale for the first time, and that Brompton is at the center of it all, it's really exciting. Conditions were difficult, The deadlines were tight and the system did not fail for a single moment. That's what we created it for”, concludes Sebastian Kanabar, sales director (APAC) de Brompton Technology.
