The Taiwanese manufacturer of consumer NAS storage products, SMEs and companies, QNAP Systems, has announced the availability of the version 3.6 of your NAS control and management firmware for your Turbo NAS series of devices, that offers VPN servers, LDAP and Proxy in addition to allowing sharing music and photos in the cloud.

QNAP has incorporated the version into its product portfolio 3.6 of your NAS control and management firmware for your Turbo NAS series of devices. The new version offers business features such as the VPN server, LDAP server and Proxy server. It also adds support for sharing photos and music in the cloud, and includes new versions of MyCloudNAS (V1.2) and the 'QPKG Center' application, in addition to offering several improvements in backup functionalities.

Jason Hsu, QNAP Product Director in Taiwan, has pointed out that “New business features have received excellent feedback from beta users”. VPN Server Offers Businesses a Cost-Effective Way to Create a Secure Private Network on Windows, Mac, Linux and even for iOS and Android devices with encryption up to 256 bits, while LDAP server simplifies bulk account management and saves businesses IT hardware costs. The Proxy server together with the application “Squid” QPKG provides the IT administrator with a great solution to manage the load on the network while maintaining network security.

“We've also worked to simplify the process of sharing photos and music online and made it easier to install add-ons on the Turbo NAS.”, Hsu added. The new Music Station app turns the Turbo NAS into a cloud music center with large capacity to store terabytes of songs, while Photo Station software makes sharing photos and images online easy and fun. The QPKG Center greatly simplifies the installation and administration of QPKG.

NAS V3.6 firmware also includes several enhancements to backup capabilities for RTRR and rsync backups., as well as for third-party cloud backups and the new NetBak Replicator 4.

The main features and improvements in NAS V3.6 firmware are:

  • Servidor VPN: a cost-effective way to create a private and secure network;
  • Servidor LDAP: Simplifies bulk account management and saves IT hardware expenses for businesses;
  • Servidor Proxy (Squid QPKG): provides the IT administrator with a great solution to manage network load while maintaining network security;
  • Bandwidth control for RTRR and rsync backups: Provides flexibility for IT administrator to manage company bandwidth usage;
  • Nuevo NetBak Replicator 4: Allows you to send email notifications;
  • Music Station: a web-based cloud music center with lots of songs;
  • Photo Station: a web-based photo sharing center that makes online photo sharing easy and fun;
  • Symform Cloud Backup: offers up to 200GB of free cloud storage space
  • QPKG Center: considerably simplifies the installation and administration of QPKG;
  • MyCloudNAS 1.2: Allows you to send email notifications to provide invited friends and family with information on how to access the Turbo NAS remotely;
  • MyCloudNAS Connect: a Windows-based application that allows friends and family to easily connect to the Turbo NAS with encryption. 128 bits and manage files remotely;
  • Share the Web File Manager in the cloud: Web File Manager now offers a quick way to share files with a public link or via email that does not require login;
  • Storage Plug & Play: a new QNAP Finder feature that provides a quick way to create shared folders and iSCSI/LUN targets, and then map network drives or connect to an iSCSI target and LUN for storage expansion
  • New support for QNAP TS series-x79: with Multimedia Station applications, Photo Station y Music Station, plus UPnP server and iTunes server
