The Spanish technology multinational Indra is preparing a project focused on developing innovative technological solutions that allow recipients of audiovisual media to interact with personalized digital content.. The Adapta solution will be tested through two pilots: one will consist of an interactive panel located in a high-traffic public space and the second will be installed on the digital television of a hotel.

Indra leads the R&D&I project ‘Adapts: Technologies for personalization and interaction of digital content‘, whose purpose is to develop innovative technological solutions that allow recipients of audiovisual media to interact with personalized digital content in different scenarios of daily life.. Adapta seeks to promote the consumption of audiovisual content, depending on user preferences, and that they are delivered to consumers in a personalized way, dynamic and non-intrusive.

The ultimate goal is to create a system capable of offering multimedia content and advanced personalized interactive services of interest to different user groups., including the group of people with disabilities. For this, The project contemplates the development of technological solutions that collect information on characteristics, preferences, tendencies, consumption habits or, even, emotions experienced when receiving these contents, thus adding to the system the capacity to feed itself and “learn” by itself what content to finally offer to each of the recipients.

Interaction with the user (both in the collection of data for the development of content and in its consumption) will be based, among others, in Kinect gesture recognition technology, from Microsoft. Thanks to this solution, Recipients will be able to interact with the content without having to have physical contact with the issuing platform through a natural user interface that recognizes gestures., voice commands, objects and images. Besides, Sensors and microphones will also be used to capture the auditory information generated by the recipient and facilitate their own interaction with the system..

The Adapta project has a global budget of 2,5 million euros thanks to the Feder-Innterconnect program, that promotes the development of innovation projects with international projection. This program is an initiative of the CDTI (agency dependent on the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) co-financed by the Technology Fund through FEDER funds (European Regional Development Fund) and the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment of the Government of Andalusia.

In addition to Indra, which is in charge of coordinating the consortium, Companies specialized in Information Technology are part of it., media and telecommunications, like the Secuoya Group, Characters, Wellness Telecom, Below Group y Tedial. In addition, Research centers such as the Foundation for Research and Development of Information Technologies in Andalusia also participate in the initiative. (Faithfulness) or the universities of Seville, Málaga, Granada and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Tests in two tourist environments

To ensure its usefulness and future application, The Adapta project will be tested through two pilots focused on tourism. The first of them will be implemented in a high-traffic public space yet to be defined and will serve to offer travelers, especially in the summer period, contents of interest with which to make your stay in this region more pleasant. An interactive panel will capture the characteristics of those who pass by through the application of person identification technologies and based on already established parameters (like its characteristics, gestures the physical). The result of this prior analysis will be the issuance of advertising or informative information attractive to the recipients., as activities, places to visit or typical products to consume in the city and its surroundings.

Besides, The second pilot will take place in a hotel environment and will focus on providing personalized services to customers through digital television. Thus, Promotional or advertising content of real interest to the viewer will reach each television.. For this, HBBTV technology will be used, that facilitates the broadcast of content on demand by combining broadcasting services (Broadcast) and broadband (Broadband). The consumer will thus be able to learn useful information for their objectives or instantly access interactive products and games with the possibility, besides, to interact naturally with those contents.

Important benefits

The Adapta project will make the automatic generation of personalized content possible, providing the user with materials of their choice, and companies important competitive advantages, given that the receivers are aware of these contents and are specifically interested in them. The resulting solution will be of special interest to the advertising market, since it will facilitate the reception of user preferences and make possible the design of content that, specifically, cover the real demands of these.

It will also be of special relevance in the field of Advanced Interaction since it not only recognizes consumer preferences and designs tailored solutions., but it facilitates, through the latest technologies, the constant relationship between the consumer and the system, so that it can continue to evolve and adapt its services. For example, when displaying certain products, The system will offer the consumer to continue advancing in their knowledge with possibilities to know where to buy them, offers, characteristics, etc.

In addition to its innovative appearance, The importance of Adapta lies in its conception as a new tool for interaction and social participation. The project will allow users to access the activities and possibilities offered by digital content, interacting with them and improving their information and leisure options. The results of the project, in addition, They could be applied in many other sectors, like healthcare, the marketing, the industry, at the bank, transportation or security.
