Christie performs first laser projection demonstration in Beijing 72.000 lumens
Christie has performed at the Wanda Shi Jin Shan Cinema in Beijing (China) a demonstration of their laser projector prototype with a projection of 72.000 lumens, who breaks his own record 63.000 lumens established last September at the IBC fair, thus achieving the brightest laser projection in the world.
Christie has surprised and amazed the main exhibitors in the Asia-Pacific region with a demonstration held in the Chinese capital, Beijing, of his laser projector prototype. On a screen 20 meters wide by 12 high belonging to the Wanda Shi Jin Shan Cinema room, some short clips of films with 3D content were projected, first at luminance levels of 3-4 ft-L—the typical 3D ones—and then, and to the astonishment of the audience, using a laser projector 14 ft-L. “The projection has been extraordinary. I was impressed by the enormous brightness and also the great realism of the colors projected on the screen”, he declarado Ning Ye, director general Manager de Wanda Group.
For your part, Lin Yu, vice president of Christie Asia Pacific, has manifested: “Christie is firmly committed to creating new technology and maintaining the highest quality in our products.. We continually develop solutions that help exhibitors project powerful and immersive images on their screens.. Hoy, We are pleased to demonstrate our first laser projector prototype to exhibitors.”.
The best technology
Opening the laser demonstration event, el Dr. Don Shaw, Chief Director, Product Management Department, Christie Entertainment Solutions, declared: “The public deserves to see 3D projections of maximum brightness on the screen at 14 ft-L. Today's demonstration will show how spectacular a filmmaker's vision can be shown at maximum luminance levels., making that shared experience more immersive and, ultimately, increasing box office revenue”. Shaw went on to point out that “There are viewers who complain of headaches after attending 3D projections, fatigue and eyestrain. Just like reading a book in low light levels, poor screen lighting is one of the causes of those complaints. Increasing the lumens of the screen will help solve these problems, as will the arrival of HFR films (high frame rate), much easier on the eyes”.
Referring specifically to the laser projector, el Dr. Shaw stated: “When designing a laser projection system, half a dozen crossroads arise, and each manufacturer takes a different path”. He also highlighted that Christie's customers expect from the world's largest supplier of DLP cinema projectors - and with a history of more than eighty years- the best in technology and service.
In addition, el Dr. Shaw informed the exhibitors present about Christie IMB, an integrated media block solution that optimally converts and delivers cinematic and alternative content within a secure environment to all Christie Solaria Series projectors 2 2K and 4K, compatible with DCI standards. After the presentation, attendees witnessed a demo of the Christie IMB with MPEG2 content.
In April of this same year, at their HFR summit, Christie performed its first laser projector demonstration before major figures in the film industry, as Douglas Trumbull, recent winner of the Gordon E. Sawyer Academy Award.
Christie's commitment to HFR technology
Helping the industry develop the best HFR content and offering the best HFR content distribution systems are the two main objectives on which Christie is focusing its activity in relation to this technology.. The first objective involves helping the most innovative filmmakers and post-production companies to perfect the creation of HFR films to increase the attractiveness of the entertainment content offered by the industry. The second objective is to support exhibitors to project these 3D HFR films in all their splendor. For this, Christie is collaborating in the creation of standards for HFR 3D films by forging alliances for the development of formal and informal technologies with major producers and directors, post production companies, studies and technological partners. Regarding your relationship with exhibitors, Christie has a 'one-stop shop'’ for hardware acquisition, the software and for the contracting of services that allow exhibitors to offer the vision of filmmakers with unsurpassed 3D HFR quality.
