NEC partners with DisplayNote to offer a tablet-based collaborative solution in classrooms
NEC Display Solutions has partnered with the company DisplayNote, provider of an interactive software solution to integrate PCs, tablet devices and projectors, to improve student interaction and learning in classrooms.
NEC Display Solutions Europe has reached a collaboration agreement with DisplayNote, company that develops solutions that allow users to present, Share and collaborate on an idea on any connected device (iPad, Android tablet, smartphone) and on any platform. Two recent pilot projects in Germany have shown that the combination of cutting-edge learning software and modern projection technology can improve the learning process and collaboration between students..
DisplayNote allows teachers to take all the content on their computer and send it to connected devices, like iPads, tablets Android, smartphones and similar devices. Then, students can add their own notes, annotations, media, etc. and save and store that content for future use and review. The software allows distribution, the exchange, collaboration and presentation of content between learning groups and allows students and teachers to relate in a creative and practical way. Working with existing resources, through an Internet browser and in conjunction with third-party software applications, DisplayNote eliminates the need for teachers to reformat content for connected devices.
Eddie Morgan, director of Marketing de DisplayNote, has stated: “Our alliance with NEC enables a new style of education, that improves interaction and collaboration. NEC Display Solutions was the right decision for us, pues comprenden perfectamente lo que el mercado educativo necesita. We believe that this solution will not only improve learning outcomes, but it will improve the entire learning experience.”
More flexible teaching
Teachers gain the freedom to work on their interactive whiteboard or projector or to move around the classroom using their tablets.. First impressions from the pilot installations have confirmed that this flexibility is greatly appreciated and that students respond well to the coexistence of the two ways of viewing and interacting..
The tablet solution is not considered an alternative to whiteboards, but rather a complementary solution that integrates student devices into a collaborative environment, allowing content to be easily shared and discussed among the group. An integrated messaging feature allows you to send private messages to both individuals and groups of students. Teachers also have the option to monitor students' screens to check their progress with certain tasks.. Documents can be shared, distributed and saved, which means that when the lesson is finished, Students can review the content on their device at any time.
The solution is ideal for collaborative learning with three principles in mind: think, distribute and share. A pilot initiative at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf suggests that it helps foster new methods of collaborative learning, integrating various technologies, such as laptops and tablets, as well as projectors and multi-touch screens.
Collaborative learning
Professor Kati Schmengler, from the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, has indicated: “Next-generation teaching tools introduced by NEC and DisplayNote focus on collaboration and highly efficient learning methods. So far the results of our pilot project look very promising and we are looking forward to continuing the evaluation to learn more about the new technological tools being used to improve the current teaching process., since now learning can take place anywhere at any time”.
For your part, el Dr. Church, academic at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, who has used technology to investigate new collaborative teaching methods, has manifested: “The results of collaborative learning are very good and superior to classic teaching methods where the teacher maintains a monologue in front of the class and everyone has to listen.. The projector continues to play an important role despite the possibility of using tablet screens. Gives students the opportunity to present their work to the class integrating all types of media, as text, images and movies.”
Finally, Ulf Greiner, Business Projector Product Line Manager at NEC Display Solutions Europe, has pointed: “As a company with a strong focus on development, Having a deep knowledge of daily uses is an important asset for us. By connecting with scientists in areas such as pedagogical studies, we can expand our point of view on the uses and challenges when it comes to technologies for the educational sector. Interactive pilots show technology can improve learning and collaboration in schools. And we all know that it is an environment that welcomes the most demanding critics: 21st century students who are surrounded by all kinds of gadgets in their daily lives”.
