DPA lavalier microphones 4071 They guarantee the clarity of the dialogues in 'Game of Thrones'’
He 4071 by DPA, a miniature omnidirectional condenser microphone designed for television and film production, has helped sound mixer Ronan Hill achieve crystal-clear dialogue in the third season of the popular HBO television series 'Game of Thrones'.’ (titled 'Game of Thrones'’ in Spain), a medieval fantasy series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss based on the novel series 'A Song of Ice and Fire’ by the writer George R.. R. Martin.
To ensure that your original recordings were as clear as possible, sound mixer Ronan Hill has used lavalier microphones 4071 of DPA to record dialogue on site during the filming of the third season of the HBO series 'Game of Thrones'.
“As someone who has been raised to do things with 'resonance'’ and only use radio microphones when there was no other way, I have become a convert to them when used with lavalier microphones 4071 by DPA. The DPA 4071 It is ideal when used outdoors. They offer very good insulation from environmental conditions, while retaining a natural vocal quality. They are also good when recording indoors, since they offer reinforcement to the resonance. It is rare that they are not included in the mix. DPA microphones 4071 have helped keep ADR to a minimum on 'Game of Thrones'’ and have contributed to the series winning an Emmy for best sound”.
Filming in remote locations
'Game of thrones’ “It is filmed in many remote and inaccessible locations and in all types of weather conditions.. In the first season of the series we were filming with temperatures of -17º C, while in the second campaign we had to deal with a hurricane. Every day is an adventure with sound”, Ronan Hill stated.
Replacing poorly recorded dialogue during post-production can be an intrinsic part of the process of making a film or television show., but it certainly saves production time and money if ADR can be kept to a minimum. The microphones 4071 by DPA have become the tie microphone of choice in 'Game of Thrones'’ from the beginning of the second season of the series after being recommended by sound editing supervisor Stefan Henrix.
Dialogues with countless characters
“You will soon appreciate how good they sound. They are available with thoughtful accessories to assist assembly, and we have placed them on the entire cast that has dialogue. Luckily, Actors are aware that costumes are difficult for sound, so they are tolerant of adjustments that will save the need for ADR”, Hill has assured.
Ronan notes that his favorite recording experience in this series has been in the chapter titled 'Blackwater’ (Episode 9 from the second season). “With great battle scenes, plus great dialogue, had real potential for sound. There was a lot of texture to record and then the challenge of isolating the dialogue from it. 'Game of thrones’ has more than 300 characters. Scenes can be more than 10 main characters speaking and there is always the professional pressure to record the dialogue on location and keep the ADR to a minimum. I wanted to give the big action scenes a presence and break the old myth that unscripted dialogue means no sound.. I also tried to ensure rehearsals so that the songs would be sung live.”
Ronan Hill's familiarity with DPA microphone technology has been limited, to date, to DPA 4071s but hopes to expand it in the future.”As a result of my good experiences with the DPA 4071s and the positive comments I have heard about other DPA microphones, I can't wait to try more of them.”, concludes.
