Sting has used four handheld vocal microphones d:fact that DPA Microphones on his recent 'Back to Bass' tour, with which he has toured all of Europe and the Far East. The FOH engineer of the former lead singer of The Police, Howard Page, has highlighted: “The definition and clarity of the d: In fact, they have been a great update to our concerts and have worked just as well for the in-ear monitors.’ that Sting was listening. This is an absolutely unique microphone that has incredible transient response and just the right amount of proximity without the normal problems of on/off tonal differences.”
A Page, Clair Brothers Engineering Director, recommended d vocal microphones:DPA facto recording engineer Donal Hodgson, who had been using them to record Sting in the studio. “Donal knew I had been looking for a state-of-the-art microphone for Sting's live concerts.. Whether Donal was happy with it in the demanding environment of a recording studio, I knew I would be satisfied too.”, Page indicated.
Sting's long-standing professional relationship with Howard Page means the singer was also happy to try out the microphone.: fact in a real environment. “Sting and I have a very good relationship and he trusts me in everything that has to do with sound., so when I suggested that we try the d: facto, He was more than willing to do it.”, adds Page.
Four d were ordered: facts to DPA UK distributor, Sound Network, who sent them to Clair's European office to include them in the tour team. Sting has two 'A' tour systems’ y ‘B’ simultaneous, each with two d:facts, one as the main microphone and another for the back up. “We have done concerts in France, Poland, Russia, Türkiye, Lebanon, Corea, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta, so it was a huge amount of commuting. On this last leg of the tour I've been to some places with really long reverb times and the d:facto it has worked perfectly without losing the tight, natural full tone I need for Sting's voice”, concludes Page.
