Urban video surveillance will double worldwide in 2017, according to IHS
The North American electronics and media firm IHS (formerly IMS Research) estimates that the urban video surveillance camera market will double worldwide in the year 2017.
IHS, specialized in electronic and media consulting and before IMS Research, has indicated in a statement that in the next four years the global market for video surveillance cameras applied to urban security will double in 2017, according to data collected in market studies and analysis.
In this sense, This increase in video surveillance systems on city streets is due not only to a policy of greater citizen projection, but also to technological advances in wireless network infrastructure and sophisticated global video systems, that the company estimates will move more than 3.200 million dollars.
According to market analyst estimates, The needs for video surveillance systems are transforming in both aspects: On the one hand, security in public and private facilities has increased significantly with the strategic placement of this type of devices to reduce theft., incidents and improve the work of security forces.
Besides, video surveillance systems installed in shopping centers, public institutions, stores, hospitals, educational centers, etc. have gone from being mostly fixed to networked systems with greater coverage and real-time visualization through mobile devices at any time and place.
This mobile video surveillance will become more and more widespread, according to IHS, to the urban security environment to record any incidents, reduce crime and provide more effective control to security forces worldwide, based on the latest incidents in Türkiye, Syria, Egypt or Brazil, and the terrorist threat.
As Paul Bremner points out, market analyst for safe cities and security services at IHS, “Urban video surveillance systems must provide clear, usable images so that police departments can conduct investigations effectively when necessary”.
One of the challenges and debates of all this is the privacy of the citizen., that she would be practically relegated to her own home, as pointed out by other analysts and also organizations worldwide, who denounce that it is not about protection but about social control for political purposes.
