The Spanish technology multinational Indra has been awarded the contract to technologically equip the control tower of the Sao Gonçalo do Amarante airport in the Brazilian city of Natal, according to a company statement.

The Brazilian Sao Gonçalo do Amarante airport in Natal will have automated management systems from the Spanish consulting and technology company Indra in its control tower, after being awarded this contract through a competition from the Inframérica consortium. Besides, It is the first international air terminal granted to a private company in Brazil.

Indra will be responsible for the supply of an integrated VHS station, of voice communication system, of the integrated control and management tower system, as well as audio recording and playback, according to the terms of the awarded contract.

As stated in the company statement, With this project, the Natal airport will be equipped with the most modern technologies for “automation of typical operational routines of control towers”. These systems are already installed in the control towers of some of the most modern airports in the world..

The award of this contract, the first for Indra in the Brazilian airport sector, reinforces the company's presence in the Latin American market and in a country that is investing in the modernization of its airports and infrastructure to meet the demand for world sporting events, like the World Cup 2014 and the Olympic Games 2016.

In this sense, Sao Gonçalo do Amarante airport is expected to be operational in April 2014 to meet an estimated demand in 6,2 million passengers annually, which will make it the fourth air terminal in the country.
