Iberia pilots replace their traditional flight portfolio with an advanced electronic system
Iberia has become the first airline in Spain to have an advanced electronic system or electronic flight portfolio, hosted on iPads, which makes it easier for pilots to consult technical documentation, aeronautical mapping and carrying out the calculations necessary for the preparation and conduct of the flight, among other advantages.
The traditional flight portfolio of pilots Iberia will be gradually replaced by an electronic one, which is already used on three aircraft in the airline's A320 fleet, to which two more will be added this month in tests to be installed later in the rest of the fleet, both short and long radius.
This advanced electronic system, hosted on iPads speeds up pilots' work, since it allows them to make both performance calculations and for airplane takeoffs and landings, with easier and more intuitive flight management, facilitating decision making and greater efficiency in the operation.
Besides, The electronic wallet replaces almost all paper documentation currently carried on the plane (of some 60 Kg. of weight), and includes aeronautical cartography (approach charts, airport filming and briefings) and documentation of the company's Operations Manual.
iPads that support electronic flight wallet, one for the commander and one for the second pilot, They are fixed to the side structure of the cabin, in which the necessary wiring has been deployed to ensure its power through the aircraft's electrical system.
More than a hundred Iberia pilots have received prior theoretical and simulator training on the functionalities of this new tool, of which 69 They are already using it currently in the testing phase in real flights.
In addition to the security advantages, comfort, ergonomics and precision in flight, The system also brings benefits to the company, such as greater speed in data transmission and information management; fuel saving (5 kilos for every two hours of flight on short and medium-haul routes) and reduction of emissions into the atmosphere.
