Based in the English city of Birmingham, in the West Midlands, Aston University Engineering Academy (WOW) is a technology and engineering training center that offers professional learning to up to six hundred students, with ages ranging from 14 a 19 years.

With the aim of promoting a technological and collaborative environment in its modern facilities, Those responsible decided to invest in a digital signage network, “as a vital element of communication with our students, both in classes and in the common areas of the center”, points out its vice-rector, Daniel Locke-Wheaton.

After evaluating some solutions on the market, Those responsible for the AUEA were impressed during a visit to Staffordshire University with the digital visualization project carried out by the specialist Tripleplay, “since in addition to being a very easy-to-use and centralized solution, offered business quality, characteristics and functions that we needed to develop this project at the AUEA and offer information services, events, activities and leisure for our students”, explica Locke-Wheaton.

Based on the TripleSign Digital Signage and Triple TV IPTV solutions from the digital communication and management specialist Tripleplay, The project carried out at the AUEA allows specific content to be offered by areas of the facility and to the four schools that make up the complex; by groups of students; make scheduled and ad-hoc playlists, etc. with a flexible and easily expandable deployment on your network of screens.

Tripleplay WOWPrecisely the possibility of establishing zones and grouping specific contents for the four schools that make up the AUEA (Shilling, Lanchester, Hounsfield y Whittle), each of which requires its own communications depending on the type of teaching provided and age, with simple management of digital assets and the media portal thanks to the integration of the TripleChoice Media Portal system and Digital Asset Management System of this provider were decisive in this project.

As its vice-rector points out, “Our distribution in specific teaching centers within the AUEA facility means that we have a large number of personnel who carry out their activity under a 'virtual campus' model, with a huge number of video and data files. When we learned that the Tripleplay system could also provide complete asset management and a video streaming service, it opened our eyes to the new possibilities we could realize with this solution in a centralized and simple way”.

Previously, this institution distributed the video files from a central server, “which with time and the continuous flow of new files became a disorganized chaos,” Locke-Wheaton points out., with duplicate articles and videos and limited library search capabilities, which generated a large use of memory and continuous investment in storage”.

Tripleplay WOWWith Tripleplay's centralized content management solution, This official points out that “we have taken a big step, since we can even add meta search tags, create our own content libraries, markers, etc. We try not to use video elements longer than 2 from 3 minutes, since before they were too long, to provide speed and efficiency to students in their search selection, which is now done in seconds, which has greatly contributed to improving the learning experience”.

The network of digital signage screens, composed of more than twenty large format systems from the firm Samsung, located in common areas and hallways at the entrance to classes, “They play a fundamental role in the life of the institution,” says the vice-rector., that are integrated into the daily training work and are also used to offer services and information to students; from the menus, even activities, promotion of initiatives, events,… y, no less important, to encourage social interaction with the use of mobile devices, but maintaining a disciplined and professional environment when they cannot be used in class”.

In this sense, Those responsible for the AUEA have created a 'traffic light' system that is displayed on the screens so that "students understand when they can or cannot use their mobile technology. Green allows full access; “Amber is limited for academic and collaborative use and red is that they cannot use their devices.”.
