The selection committee of the Gerona International Mapping Festival (FIMG) has chosen the 29 finalist projects that will participate in the second edition of the Contest to be held on 30 from July to 2 of August.

To the call to participate in the II International Mapping Contest of Gerona, have been presented 89 projects, 63 more than in the last edition, coming from 20 countries, among which Azerbaijan stands out, Brazil, Cuba, Montenegro, Pakistan, Czech Republic, Romania, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Argentina, Hungary and Mexico.

Of the 89 projects presented, the selection committee FIMG, formed by Núria Font, director of NU2'S, Oscar Teston, director de VJ Spain, Xavi Bové, artistic director of FIMG, and Marc Batallé, FIMG technical director, has chosen a total of 29 finalist projects in three of the four categories of the call (Professional, Amateur, Micromapping and Educational) who will participate in the second edition of the Contest that will be held on Friday 31 from July to Sunday 2 of August. Los 10 finalists in the Educational category have not yet been revealed.

The Micrommaping category, has been incorporated in this edition as a novelty and focuses on the projection on objects in small interior spaces, such as hotel and museum lobbies, shop windows or shops.

Las 15 videomapping finalist proposals, corresponding to the Professional category, will be projected on the façade of the Girona City Council, in the Casa Pastors and in the Courts of Gerona. Las 6 proposals in the Amateur category will do so on the façade of the Pont d’en Gómez building and the 10 that will be selected for the Educational category will take place in Les Àligues (Saint Dominic).

Las 8 Micromapping proposals will be installed 20 from July to 2 August in different small spaces in Girona that have not yet been determined.

The public will be able to vote on the mappings and the FIMG jury 2015, formed by international professionals in areas such as architecture, the theater, digital animation and video art, will be in charge of awarding a first and second prize in each category, with an amount ranging from 12.000 euros of the first prize in the Professional category up to 500 euros of the second prize in the Educational category. These awards have a budget of more than 24.000 euros.

For the second year in a row, Gerona City Council, through Bolit Contemporary Art Center, announces a scholarship for visual artists within the framework of this festival. The objective is to promote contemporary production and creation in the city of Girona, in the Bòlit Residencia Girona Creativa space.

The creation resulting from the residency will be a videomapping work that will be linked to the third edition of the Gerona International Mapping Festival 2016. The winning artist of the artistic residency will be able to choose the façade, building or space for which you want to create your visual project.

II Girona Mapping Festival

As we already mentioned in Digital AV Magazine, The second edition of the Gerona International Mapping Festival will be held from 30 from July to 2 August and during these four days the city will become the international benchmark for mapping. The FIMG aims to bring together artists and professionals from the sector with the aim of showing the high artistic level of the discipline.

It is an open festival that interweaves the cultural value of Gerona and contemporary creation through innovation and audiovisual arts.. As in the last edition, FIMG 2015 maintains its structure: Friday 31 from July to Sunday 2 In August the International Mapping Contest is held, with projections on some of the most representative facades of the city of the finalist artistic proposals, and Thursday 30 from July to Saturday 1 In August the 1st International Mapping Congress is held, a space for dialogue and reflection dedicated to professionals in the sector.

The new edition of the festival expands the number of spaces and works, creating an itinerary through the city through historical and contemporary heritage buildings. The Door of the Apostles of the Cathedral of Gerona and the Puente de Piedra will be scenes of projects curated by the festival that will be repeated every day of the festival and will have a strong presence of Catalan authorship.

As a novelty, The FIMG incorporates a theme for each edition. For this 2015 The central theme of the festival will be 'contradictions'. The objective is to stimulate projects that explore possible scenarios around the topic., as well as suggesting a framework for artistic and cultural reflection.

The anaglyph 3D mapping that will be offered at the inaugural show of this second edition will also be an innovative element.. This is a technique that will allow 2D images to be displayed that cause a three-dimensional effect when viewed with special glasses..
