The Krillon Grand Ballroom is a space located in the Portland Art Museum designed with high ceilings and capacity for a thousand people. This historic ballroom and adjoining lobby have hosted major events for decades.

The museum administration decided to implement a Meyer Sound Lina linear array system because of the performance it offers for a range of music and speech applications., as well as for its slim profile and elegant and sober appearance.

The Krillon Grand Ballroom is the largest of the “Artful Venues”, a series of full-service event spaces operated by the museum. Located in Mark Building, an ancient masonic temple integrated into the museum campus in 1994, the ballroom offers 2.743 mere squares of space that can be configured as needed to accommodate receptions, banquets, concerts and conferences.

“We carry out everything from large weddings to non-profit galas, corporate events and academic conferences. Many have live music and we are also going to start holding concerts, we did not want to compromise quality with this new system”, comments Greg Muhr, director of Sales and Event Operations at the museum.

After evaluating several systems, the Lina solution was chosen. “Compact size and clean appearance were important, but so was the sound from the first moment. It's a system where you don't have any problems getting a good match., and that is a great advantage”, says Muhr..

With corporate events, charities and universities as basic elements of the place, The system's ability to handle the use of the spoken word was of utmost importance.

One of the first performances with the new Lina system was performed by the international jazz-Latin-pop band Pink Martini. Other artists who have used the new Lina system in its first months include Kristen Chenoweth and jazz bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding.

At the front, The Kridel Ballroom uses a Midas M32 digital mixing console along with Earthworks podium microphones, Countryman E6 DPA lavalier and headset microphones. Shure's ULX-D digital wireless system includes bodypacks and wearables equipped with Beta pods 87 and Beta 58.
